Unfortunately it is a myth that celery contains negative calories. Fact is that ALL foods contain calories. Some, not that many. However the body has one thing which actively works against you. It's the most efficient engine known to man. The calories delivered by the lightest foods renders many times more energy than is required to digest them.
There is one true negative calorie food:
To truly use more energy than a food can provide you, you would have to eat cardboard (cellulose). Since we lack the enzyme to break down cellulose we would not be getting any nutritional benefit (calories) and we would be spending a small but measurable amount of energy to pass it through our system.
Some foods that claim to be negative calories are:
Celery (most popular though of)
Asparagus
Beets
broccoli
green cabbage
Carrots
cauliflower
celery root
chicory
hot chili peppers
cucumber
dandelion
endive
garden cress
garlic
green beans
zucchini
apple
cranberries
grapefruit
lemon
mango
oranges
pineapple
raspberries
strawberries
tangerines
lamb's lettuce
lettuce
onion
papaya
radishes
spinach
turnips

Negative calories are a myth. The calories for digesting them were already taken out. If not you could eat 5 pounds of them, then eat same in pos. cals and it would be just like eating nothing. Also would so many people be fat???
Diets do not work. 99% of people gain the weight back. Here is how it works. No one teaches the animal what to eat and what not to eat. He knows instinctively what to eat. Humans also have the same instinct. The way it works is just eat whatever tastes good and that will be healthy for you and non-fattening. That is why a baby tastes everything. So again whatever tastes good, is good for you. This is why you will spit out spoiled milk.
But wait!!! Man has the technology to create rat poison. It tastes like healthy food (good taste) but kills the rat. So man has done that to you. Note- any food unaltered by man (uncooked) that tastes good, is good for you. So if you are stranded in the woods, that is how you know what to eat (cooking changes that). So man has created fake fruit. It tastes like fruit that exists in nature but it is terrrible for health, addictive and fattening called sweets.
So it is natural to like real sweets called fruit, like a baby does, but they have fooled you just like the rat. But they do not want to kill you. They want you to become obese so you will buy lots of their foods. This is called GOOD BUSINESS. Remember the above (not on site) and see site below to re-learn how to eat so you can be thin and fit for life.

A celery stalk actually requires more energy to chew, swallow, and digest it, than the amount of calories contained in it.
However, here's a page on "negative calorie" foods (even if it's not entirely a true statement): http://www.weightlossforall.com/negative-calorie-foods-list.htm

Negative calories is often a reference to foods that give your body less calories than it takes for your body to process the food. Shredded wheat, celery, and bran are good examples. But these foods give little to no nutrition, either

For anyone looking at this in 2014 onward, there has been a lot research done on this topic. The Mayo clinic as well as several other research organizations found what they call significant evidence that supports the idea that certain foods are negative-calorie items. They obviously have calories in them, but your body DOES burn more calories digesting them then they provide. However, eating only negative-calorie items would make for a very poor diet. When your body doesn't get enough calories your metabolism starts to slow down, making it even harder to loose weight. You are also more fatigued and more hungry, both of which hinder weight loss. So the ''fad diets'' don't really work. However, bringing these foods into your diet can certainly help you loose weight. Just make sure to eat other foods as well. Whole grains and legumes especially. If you really want to loose weight try going vegan for a month. Trust me, you loose weight fast.
