Ok, she'll pretty much eat ANYTHING....she loves carrots and apples and things like that. Should I start feeding them to her or continue what I'm doing and just giving her a bite when ever I'm eating them? These foods can't upset her tummy in any way can they, I know they are healthy for humans but does the same apply to animals? Thanks!

I think carrots are okay, but I would go to this site and ask them. There are people that feed their dogs all kinds of diets on the site and they'll be able to tell you more about it.

Good question. Vegetables and fruit are good for dogs and are a great low-calorie and healthy treat. I often give my Leo a head of broccoli instead of a high-fat and low-nutrition commercial chew treat. As long as you consider fruits and veggies treats instead of a regular part of your dog's daily diet, you won't be feeding enough to hurt her in any way. Just remember that commercial dog food is already a carefully balanced diet, so replacing part of your dog's ration can upset this nutritional balance.

Regarding your concern about an upset tummy, a small amount of fruit should not give her any digestive trouble. In fact, my dog tends to become frantic to lick up and eat things off the floor when he is nauseous, and I've found that giving him a little something that's easy to digest seems to help him calm down. Of course, a dog's digestive system evolved to handle mostly meat and the occasional veggie, so feeding too much fruit or veggies all at once could cause her to throw up, but a single carrot, apple, or head of broccoli has never caused Leo any queasiness.

Veggies are also great for training dogs, especially overweight ones, since commercial training treats are usually high in fat and basically "filler." If you stick a carrot or two in a blender on the low setting for a few seconds, you should end up with nice little bits for training. You could also use a very coarse grater to get thick shreds.

Hope this helps!

Vegetables should be OK. If you look in some brands of dog food, you can see little carrot pieces and other stuff. The fruit I'm not too sure about. I know grapes aren't good for your dog (they will most likely give them diarrhea and I've heard of some dogs dying from them), so I'd think acidy fruits might make them sick, they may not puke or get diarrhea, but they may get a tummy ache. Like I said, I'm not completely sure about the apples, but just be aware.

Fruits and Veggies should be ok as a treat. You will definitely want to feed them some natural premium foods for a well rounded diet. There are MANY brands of food out there so be selective if you want your pup to have a long, healthy, happy life. Brands such as Nutro, Canidae, Wellness are great choices. Here is a great 4 part article on feeding. http://www.pamperedpuppy.com/features/200408_feedingpt1.php Also, you can get good premium foods at a local shop possibly but not the big warehouse stores. We get ours from www.heartypet.com as we don't have a small store here that sells it.

You can feed her all the fruit and vegetables you/she wants, but there are differences when it comes to digestion in the animal world compared to humans..avoid at all cost chocolate(it actually has an alcohol effect on dogs, with severe damage to the liver) also grapes(dogs have a hard time digesting them,so they ferment in the stomach and again, act like an alcohol and damages the liver)raw onions are hard for dogs to digest and will give them a bad case of gas(YA!)I had an albino Shepperd(now have an albino rat)who had no immune system(very week) and Sheena lived a healthy 9 yrs with only one sickness at the age of 7(whooping cough a communicable disease)I fed her nothing but Lamb and rice or chicken and rice dog food and once a week every week a cup of rice..boiled or steamed, mashed in one boiled egg and I tell you she was the picture of health..I swear to you this diet is the best,my Sheena was proof.

Feeding is something you would probably like to read books about.

There shouldn't be a problem with feeding her that as long as you give her dog food and plenty of water. If she throws up, you may want to try giving her less. If something serious happens like a rash, consult the vet.

A good food that we feed are dogs is INOVA. It has stuff like carrots and apples in it. We have a Great Dane so to avoid ALOT of food for him, INOVA can give him alot of nutrients at once!

Inova is made by California Natural. You can check out the different types here... http://www.naturapet.com/

I love to see dog owners feeding nutritional food :)

P.S. Comercial dog foods actually don't have alot of nutrients that a dog might need in a stat of weekness and sickness.

Fruits and veggies are ok. Grapes are questionable. Chocolate is a big no-no because it has a chemical in it that people can tolerate but dogs cannot (they have chocolate-free chocolate flavored doggie treats in specialty stores). Like some posters mentioned, dog food does have bits of veggies in it because dogs also need the same nutritional benefits as people do.

I know this will probably never happen but make sure that your dog doesn't get into your purse or whatever and ingest herbal energy pills (if you don't use em', disregard this message) because that can kill your dog (saw this happen on TV; a lady brought in her husky because he had eaten her energy pills and it sped up his heart rate - he ended up being put down that day).

Vegetables are great for your dog. Don't give anything chocolate to them. Also watch out for poultry bones because they can splinter and damage their digestive tract or get stuck. Foods high in fat aren't great for them either. Some breeds have more tendency than others to become obese as well so if you have one, limit starches too.
