Are you single? Do what my Dad did. He set the table for every meal, washed the dishes, left them in the sink drainer to dry, and got them back out for the next meal. He had a glass, plate, bowl, and full set of silver, and got a napkin out of the cabinet. He ate in the kitchen, at the table, the news was on in the next room, but he could not see the TV from where he sat.
Every once in awhile, I get a notion to act nice at a meal or snack time. I get out a real teacup and saucer, and put my snack on a plate.
I got in the habit of grabbing a plastic bowl or 2 or 3, and dumping food into them, so I could haul it into the living room to watch TV without spilling anything.. I've been using a plate, lately.
I went online, and subscibed to allrecipes.com. They send out a daily E-mail, and a weekly one, with recipes, hints, cooking instruction. It is free, and you can have your own online recipe file.. And you have access to their recipe collection. There are lots of easy, yummy, cost effective recipes.
I have tried many, I haven't had a failure yet. I am more likely to fix a meal with all that reference material. Kraft foods, and Ritz Crackers, and Philadelphia Cream Cheese have good sites, too.
It is nicer to sit down to a good meal, with the table set. It perks up your appetite, and it is healthier. If you chip and dip straight out of the refrig and cabinet, you lose track of how many calories you have had, and chip and dip doesn't fill you up like real food.
If you aren't up to a vegetable, and a meat, and potatoes, and 20 pans to wash, try a casserole, most keep in the refrig well, and make more than one meal. I tried Husband's Delight casserole, it has hamburger, cheese, sour cream, yum, and is easy but it takes a few pans..

Setting the table's overrated -- kinda like making the bed.
If you're going to dip chips, dip them in something better than cottage cheese...and don't double-dip if anyone could be looking.
Stuffing food in your mouth -- as long as it's finger food or hand food it's okay -- just don't use your feet; it grosses some people out.

Your answer's in your question. Begin with sitting at a table designated as an eating table or dining table. You can go to steps 2,3,4, etc. by putting a tablecloth over it, and placing fork, knife, spoon and napkin in their proper places, and learning how to use them properly. My dad always taught me that even if you don't want to eat like that around the house by yourself, you'll wish you knew how to do so, and were comfortably familiar with how to do so, if I wanted to take a lady out to dinner and wanted to take her to a nice place and impress her with my manners. That advice came in handy often in my dating years and in raising my kids. Now, retired, I eat sitting here at my computer with a fold away table to my left, but, my kids are grown and gone from the house, and my wife can understand my want for a more "relaxed" or less formal dining scenario. But, when my kids come visit, and they bring their kids, I can teach them the more "proper" way to dine. They need to make a favorable impression in the world too. God Bless you.

Eat as you would like to but only if you are alone.

If you always eat like that you will probably always be alone or eating with a partner chip stuffer.

Set yourself a lovely tray with a cloth and proper utensils and sit in front of the tv if you are lonely. Practise eating properly because you don't want to forget.

If you are all alone then nothing wrong with that. If you have some company, set the table properly and don't talk with your mouth full...
