When puppies reach about 3 - 4 weeks of age, the mother suppy of food doesn't meet the puppies' demand for food any more and it is necessary to begin to give them a supplement. A good thing to feed them is either Purina Puppy chow (or any quality puppy food) - I use Science Diet. Mix it with water or evaporated milk to soften it and then offer it to the puppies once a day - probably in the morning would be best! This will help them adjust their little bellies to the food as well. Good Luck!

in answer to your question: high quality puppy food soaked with warm water, not milk, served up on a cookie tray - They are not ready for a bowl. As much as they want, 4 times a day. They will stop when full. 25 percent protein is the same as puppy food but much cheaper . Most breeders use adult performance dog food and not puppy food. Good luck.

you should start to feed the puppies at 3 weeks and still have mom, but when they are 6 weeks they should be off mom and on solids for good. you want to start them at 3 weeks because you don't want them to have problems with the food when you sell them. good luck

We started our litter on hard food when they were 4-5 weeks old. We had a litter of 8 and it was taking everything out of the mom. That is why we switched so early. You should soak the food in water so it is moist.

You can introduce them to solid food around 4 weeks old. Make a thin paste out of it and put on their tongues to let them get used to the texture. You should be able to get them weaned easily by 6 weeks then. You gradually add less water as the pups get older and they start drinking water.
