I prefer to use temporary (level 2) hairdye because it only lasts through 24 shampoos, so the fear of mistakes isn't as bad. lol. My ideal color would be a true brown - like milk chocolate. lol. But every dye I've tried leaves me with half black strands and the rest in yellow, orange or red. Any suggestions?? : )

Use two boxes instead of one. You might want to use level 3 if you want darker, more permanent results. Level 3 is considered permanent of course. Do not use really dark colors by the way - because it can look too harsh on your skin. Use a medium brown. Do not use a medium golden brown as this will have reddish tones in it. Good luck!

Use a cool brown do not use warm. Before you color use a blonde toning shampoo it is purple and you can only get it in salons but it is pretty cheap. Use it for 1 week and then color your hair continue to use the shampoo once a week after you color your hair.

if you really want a nice brown color you are going to have to use a permanent hair dye...if your hair is light you will need to buy a level 5 neutral and mix it with a 5 golden blond for a natural looking brown that wont be too brassy. or just go to a good hair dresser with a picture...if you can get ahold of redken shades..which is semi permanent go with a color like brandy or caramel or mix them together.
