If you mean "paragraph markers" that look like a double-lined backward P -
if you have typed text and hit "return," you cannot remove them nor should you want to. They are Word's way of storing formatting for the paragraph preceding it. On some systems "enter" uses an arrow symbol instead of the "backward P."
You must have accidentally hit the "show/hide" button which is next to the percentage box on the Standard toolbar. Just click it and they will be hidden.
When you get into serious work and long files, and need to remove an unwanted blank lines, or join lines, or widen the text where you hit "return" in the middle of a paragraph, you will want to see these -temporarily. Then, click the show/hide button and click again when finished.

Many people are uncomfortable with paragraph marks visible on the page (the technical name for the character is the pilcrow, by the way), but they won't print or affect your output in any way. If you can get used to them, they can be very useful, for instance in knowing exactly where a paragraph really ends. Much of Word's paragraph formatting (indentation, line spacing, ...) is attached to the paragraph mark, so knowing exactly which one you just deleted can explain some very mysterious and usually unintended format changes. But if you still want to get rid of them, the simplest way is this: 1. Click the Tools->Options menu item. 2. Click the View tab. 3. In the Formatting Marks section, deselect Paragraph Marks. 4. Click OK.

On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the View tab.
Under Formatting marks, select the check boxes next to the characters you want to display.

There are 4 small teeny weeny buttons on the bottom left corner - try those. I guess the same effect can be gotten from the menus above but these are shortcuts.

Turn off non-printing characters - in the 'View' menu I think.
