Sweetheart, most of those things don't matter. Go on Google and research it. There are many ways to meditate. I will answer you the best I can.
When - when you surroundings are very quiet (when you have more experience you will be able to do it w/ some background noise) or you are very upset and need to quiet yourself down. Sunrise is very calming as well.
Where - wherever you want, really. Forest, by a stream, in your living room, outdoors, and some active practitioners have their own meditation room in their house
Position - pretty much whatever position you want as long as your spine is straight. Up against a wall or in a comfortable chair.
Some people do the lotus position. I wouldn't recommend this if you are not experienced, because it takes quite a bit of flexibility, and you don't want to spend you time thinking about if you're doing it right. You can sit however you want. No one is going to criticize you.
Focus - Some use chants, some use candles, and some, like me, focus on their breathing. Feel the tingle of the air going in and out of your nose.
Music - Some people use music. The first few times, just be with yourself, with no distractions so you can get used to meditating. If you want to listen to music, use a sound system, not anything with headphones. I would recommend calming, slow music, with maybe some soothing vocals and natural noises like waves on the ocean. Some stores sell specific meditation music. I like the "Buddhacafe" CD. Something with a flute or woodwind instrument is good too.
I hope this is all very useful to you. I took me a while to write it! :) So as you can see, meditation is pretty open. And since you are by yourself, no one is there to say No that's not right. Really, you can do whatever you want. Best wishes!

Hikaru said it well and simple enough. In addition, meditating in the morning (4 am to 6 am) before going to work is excellent I found because it perhaps your clear and energy mind for the day's activities ahead. Also, whenever you feel fatigue and sleepy, try meditating a short ten minutes and you feel more awake and rested as well. Meditation is giving the mind a rest as sleeping is giving the body a rest. We should all do this exercise.
Take care.

Personally when I meditate, I focus on a bible scripture as I pray and wait to hear from the Lord.
When: 4am -5am and in the evening 8pm-9pm(unless my spirit is lead to stay longer)
Where: In my living room (I never know how the spirit is going to move me and while I've never been hurt when I've been slain in the Spirit, I like to provide myself enough space so that I can push things away and have open space like tables, chairs, etc.)
What position:For me it really depends on my Spirit, at times I'll sit on the sofa, or recline in the lazy boy, and other times I find it more humbling to be flat on my face before the Lord. However, I rarely stay in one position during the entire hour, and if I do then I know I need to stay longer.
Sometimes I prefer it to be absolutely silent, but most times, I play soft praise & worship music, or soft music that has no lyrics-like harp music, flute music, acoustic music...things like that.
So- that's how I meditate.
Blessings To You & Yours

Pray the Rosary. A contemplative prayer of the Gospels.
When....whenever possible
Where..anywhere
Position...doesn't matter
Mind is focused on the primary events of the Life of Jesus Chirst as depicted in the Four Gospels of the Holy Bible.
Usually silence, but not necessarily.

I usually meditate at night, before bed. It helps me sleep. I meditate in my room before one of my altars depending on the day (Monday it'll be in front of Hela's altar, Wendesday in front of Odin's, Thursday in front of Thor's, so on) and I usually sit Indian style. I just relax and focus on my breathing and clearing my head, just letting my thoughts drift by. I prefer silence...if I play music I inevitably start concentrating on it instead of the meditation.
