It may deter Israel from launching a land attack across the border, but the Hezbollah will use the Lebanese army as a shield, and will continue lobbing rockets at populated Israeli cities, with the Israelis placed in a "catch-22" situation.

If Israel strikes back, their weapons will probably kill Lebanese soldiers and U.N. Peacemakers, as well as members of the guerrilla Hezbollah. This will provoke world-wide anti-Israel sentiment (as if here is not enough already).

If Israel does nothing, look for not only the Hezbollah to increase their offensive, but possibly Palestine aggressively attacking Israeli borders. If these people feel they can attack without repercussion, they will.

To answer your question, the Lebanese Army will be as effective as a glass of water in a drought. They will sympathize with the Hezbollah, and even protect them; they will be in the way of Israel attacking Hezbollah guerrillas.

BTW, notice that not too many countries are willing to volunteer soldiers for the peacekeeping force-Suicide Squad? LOL.

I dont trust any of them and especially the UN. See, they have been there for years and the terrorist keep blowing people up in Isreal. Oh, sorry, that is allowed according to world opinon, but Isreal kicking but and killing terrorists makes the evening news. Lets talk about the Poor terrorists that died and not the civilians in Isreal.

This is a small break and will kick off again in another month or so, but this time, dont think Isreal will slow down and stop. they wioll be out to kill as many terrorists as they can.

I think the lebaneese government will seaze this golden opportunity to assert itself over hizzbullah and get them out of business. If they don't, I will then begin the question the real emotional reality of the tears the president shed at the meetings with the Arab League - Now is time to show that lebanon belong to a sane, modern society and not a puppet in the hands of Iran and Hizzbullah.

The question is, will the Lebanese army be able to stop Hezbollah from carrying out operations without consent from the government without causing a civil war.

Absolutely not !!!! I was a U.S. Marine at he barracks in 1983 in Beirut where many of my friends died from a Hezbollah cowardice act. Guess what, the Lebanese army did nothing then and they are not about to do anything now. They are the enemy just as much as Hezbollah is. They are unable to protect their own country and unwilling to sacrifice to make it a respected place to live.

Yes because the Lebanese central government hates Hezbollah as much as Israel does it just can't do anything about it because they are too weak...plus Hezbollah provides lots of free services for the civilians in southern lebanon...i.e. they build hospitals, offer medical attention, build schools, etc etc (however they also use this propaganda to recruit those willing to die for a cause.)
