This is a very unhappy, bored dog and he's not going to stop unless something changes. Does this dog get enough exercise? You don't say what kind of dog it is, but unless it's a toy, he should be getting a minimum of 1 hour per day - at a brisk walk. Does he get played with enough? Does he get any mental stimulation? Does he have toys? Do yo do any obedience or agility or anything to keep his mind occupied?
You may have to find this dog another home even though you really don't want to.

If your dog is barking all day long - he is obviously VERY unhappy and the LAST thing you should do is put him in the bathroom. What you SHOULD do is find him a good home, with a nice family with kids, a parent who is home all day and where he has a lawn to play in. This will be very difficult for you to do because you love your dog. But, if you REALLY love your dog, you'll start that search tomorrow.
My dog came to me in that way. A young man's wife had left him - he worked very long hours and the dog was locked up in a trailer home all day. The dog was miserable and the young man knew it. He actually came down to my house and checked it out, this was the second visit - first time I went to his "house" and met the "creature". He was very careful to make sure that the dog would be going to a safe, loving home. It took the dog a few weeks to calm down - he wasn't used to being loose all day - and he still acts up a bit, barks a bit and races around - but that's HIM! I did put him in the cage at bedtime, because I was waking up to "presents" and he destroyed things. That lasted about three or four months. I'm home most of the time - when I'm going out he slinks into his cage (so he doesn't chew every metal object in the house) and is delighted when I return. He's my joy.
PLEASE - do this for your dog. He's obviously miserable.
In the end, you'll know you did the right thing, and you can look for a different type of pet, or kind of dog - or wait until you have your own home.
Good luck and God Bless!!

FIrst let's look at why your dog is barking all day. If you find the cause, perhaps you can get rid of the symptoms, right?
Your dog is barking all day because it is so bored it is gradually going crazy. Don't believe me? Ask a qualified animal behaviourist. Dogs are pack animals that are designed to live outside, not alone all day in a box in the air.
I don't understand why you choose to keep a dog in an apartment. With all due respect, a dog is an animal which has been specifically designed by nature to live outside all of its life. It is absolutely unnatural and unhealthy to have a dog that lives indoors most or all of its life.
There is nothing you can do to stop your dog barking. All you can do is modify the dog itself. By having its voicebox altered so all it can do is whisper. Now that's a lovely thought, isn't it? Having a dog in such an inappropriate situation that you have to mutilate it so you can keep it without incurring extra fines. Perhaps you could be a little less selfish and have the dog re-homed somewhere it has a chance at a normal life, and get yourself a goldfish.

My dog used to do that and boy did I have a problem.I ended up dropping him off at my parents house everytime I had to go somewhere and my parents would doggy sit and than I would go pick him up.Its separation anxiety. My husband and I have a house now and my dog is really old now he doesn't do it anymore but I think that's because we have another dog in the house so he is no longer alone when I leave.Do you have any family that can wacth your dog when your not home and you can just pick him up when your done?

It may well be that he is suffering from being alone. Leave the television on and see if that works. The dog will feel as though there are people around him providing him the company he needs. Worth a try.
Good Luck!!

They have those accessories that give them a minor jolt when they bark. After a while, its not necessary anymore. It might be an investment, but it might be cheaper in the long run.
