The Chinese have numbers and thier armed forces dwarf ours in size. As far as technology, training and leadership however they are no where near us. Technologically the Chinese army is about 1970. They have 3000 tanks but most are simply upgraded versions of equipment that has been around 25 years. The Chinese have made steps to correct the imbalance technologically but they are still quite a ways behind us.

It's not a matter of how strong they are but how much damage they can inflict on the US. Any army now a day that wants to topple China will have not only have a very difficult time but might result in mutual annilation, they have nukes and the ability to transport them worldwide, it doesn't take much to irrevocably harm a country these days.

Take the US for example, investment from China is what's keeping our economy afloat, they can just withhold the cash and it would force a bankruptcy of the US economy, or close to it. In addition, look at Iraq and Afghanistan, they prove that it's not just how powerful a country is, manpower does play a role. And lastly, people look at wars from a very narrow point of view, from a global POV, if the US and China engage, both would be so mutually hurt military wise (we're talking about million and half billion dollar equipment here, they are not easy to replace) it allows other countries to raise to prominance, i.e Russia or even the old European powers. It's no one's interest to go to war not only in terms of life lossed but political influence as well.

Depends on your standard for "power".

They clearly outnumber us, but technology and training is a great force multiplier. Ignoring a nuclear escalation, gotta go with the US. But given our size(s), an economic hegemony would be a preferable solution.

They might beat the US in numbers of troops but there technology is out of date and not really equipped. The US has the most advanced technology of weaponry in the world so they can't possibly beat us.
