it really depends but most people will dance at weddings once the liqour gets flowing anyways, and if people request those silly wedding songs they may be played regardless of your wishes. But no it shouldn't be an issue have fun it's your day. congrats

It's going to depend on what they play, how much of it, and how fancy the dancing is likely to get. I went to a wedding once that had a ton of swing music. The bride & groom and many members of the wedding party all did swing dancing, but not everyone else did AND the dance floor was terribly small. There were A LOT of swing songs where us "non-dancers" felt left out.
If possible, alternate the big band / swing music with some more rock/pop/standard songs. A 50/50 mix might work. Something else to keep in mind is the average age of the people attending the reception.
What do you two want more - the music you love or the "certainy" of people dancing?

I think if people are having a good time, they will dance. If you are afraid they will not dance, then you should ask the band to play a few songs that are more up to date in order to get the folks on the dance floor, then move on with the music that you enjoy!

I am planning the same for my wedding, and I just attended a wedding that played only the same kind. People will dance. It sets a romantic and classy mood and people will want to dance. I noticed that even if people didn't know how to dance to that kind of music, they still slow danced. It fits.

Swing is always great to dance to! A lot of young adults still take swing dance lessons, and your elders will love it!

Maybe you can find a couple who can come and teach people how to swing dance. I used to take lessons and it's a great way to break the ice and get to know other people. That might be nice for your guests.
