Honey is a sweet treat, but it should not be given to infants and children under the age of one. Spores that may cause infant botulism, a rare disorder of the nervous system, are sometimes found in honey.
These spores (also found in soil, dust, and uncooked foods) do not pose a health risk to adults and older children, but the immature digestive tracts of infants and young babies sometimes permit the growth of the spores, which can lead to illness.

There are no bacteria in honey, neither bacteria or viruses can survive in honey. but, there are things that can exist in honey, toxic things, so it is not a good idea to give honey to babies. That botul??? is one of such things.
Honey can be used as an antibiotic for major surface wounds. Russia not too many years ago coated major surface wounds with honey, and this prevented infection.
A pound or two of honey also stops the diarrhea of cholera, which is what kills the patients.

There is a minute amount of bee venom and botulinium bacteria in honey, which may cause severe, violent reactions in people. Because children are particularly vulnerable to anaphylactic shock, honey should be avoided.

Although the chance is remote, raw honey may also contain minute quantities of Clostridium botulinum spores and should not be fed to children under one year of age.

Because rarely, it can harbour a type of botulism and little ones cant defend themselves against it as easily as older children and adults, so why take the chance? Also, don't give corn syrup either.
