Well, I think possibly it has to do with the fact that when people see you materially prosperous, they may look up to you more than being envious of you. However when they see in numbers how much you make and compare it to what they make, it could get frustrating to see that they'd never measure up financially. I personally don't care one bit about what kind of money someone makes.

This is an interesting question. I have been asking this question for years, because to flaunt wealth is contrary to what I was taught growing up. I was taught, and believe still, that it is in bad taste to "flaunt" anything, or to brag. While I am not opposed to having nice things, or other people having nice or even nicer things than myself, I do believe that it has become more acceptable in the last 20 to 30 years in our society to "show off" one's possessions. While it does seem to still be taboo to an extent to tell what your income is, I have known people to brag about that too, which is in bad taste as well. Frankly, aren't people (is it just here in America?) just way more concerned than they need to be about material possessions? It's a big turn off when people talk about what is really only a diversion from things that are more important in life.

I don't think it's actually socially acceptable to flaunt your wealth any more than discussing your income. I think it's because people have gotten petty. Both of these things fall in the category of bragging. No one likes someone who brags. I notice that those who brag are trying to out-do each other. It's so ridiculous and immature.

The difficulty is where do you draw the line - as in treating yourself with something nice, luxurious or expensive which can on the other hand be seen as braggin about your possessions. It's not always a clear cut case of someone who buys a Ferrarri and lives on a Council estate - that would automatically be perceived as showing off - but if that same person bought a gold watch or dear item of jewellery would have the same effect!

People need to realise that there is more to life than money - what other people do with their money should be for them! I try not to judge when i see an 18 year old cruising around in her mercedes that she got for her 21st from daddy but i do!

They called nouveau rich it means they don't have class or breeding. Those who brag about their wealths are people who come from nowhere. It rather vulgar to talk about ones wealth etc.

IT's not too good to flaunt your wealth.......relatives might want to borrow from you and robbers will target you.

If wealthy people didn't spend their money the economy would come to a halt.
