I recommend checking the classifieds. I often see ads for pet lovers who want to earn a few extra bucks while you're on vacation. Your local animal shelter might also have info on people who provide this type of service.
I have also had great luck with the young neighbor kids...As long as your pet doesn't need a lot of special care, it's not too difficult for them to come by twice a day to feed and exercise them.

We have two cats. When we go away, I hired a young person, whom I trust to come and stay at my house and take care of my cats. It's great, they get to be away from m/d and be like an adult living alone, and my animals get the needed attention. Costs me around $100 for a week. Well worth it!

you can check out the boarding facilities here in the brentwood area. i live here in oakley next to brentwood and there is a boarding kennel i use to work at it' scalled pets frolic inn the no# you can find in the phone book. they are really good. they even do day cares too. try giving them a call that is if you are willing to do a drive. which it is not that far. when i worked there people would drive from w.c. to board their dogs with us.
