You should be angry with the whole situation.
If your friend didn't ask you how you felt before she made the decision to date your ex, then that means your opinion didn't count to her, and she didn't care if you still cared for him, or if it would bother you to see them together.
If he's keeping you around as backup, do NOT let that happen. If you still care about him, I'm sorry, but put your feelings aside and try your best to get over him. He's not really interested in you. He's being completely disrespectful if he thinks you're going to wait on his every whim and desire until he comes back to you.

You have the right to be a little upset but this is your friend and ex here . It sounds like you are not too much over the fact that you two are over . Don't let your friend get dogged by a dog . In the process of doing that , make sure you let him know he can't come and go as he pleases . Take some time to think about what future do you and your ex have ?

Find yourself a number one relationship. You should not play second string for anybody. That sounds like he is being cruel to you and just satisfying his own needs. "OK, Baby," he says, "hang around and maybe I will date you some if things go bad with the present lady." You tell me what you would advise any other woman in your position. Tell me.
Get yourself a new hair style, some clothes, just feel a bit better about yourself, and smile a bit. Find that there are plenty of guys who are worth dancing with. Leave King See-Ya-Later in the dust, Darling.

It would never have worked anyway if he can date someone so close in your circle. Goodbyes are hard but necessary in life.
