Aztlan - Mythical (by mythical, I mean make-believe, non-existent) home of the Aztecs, or so the current crop of Reconquistas seem to think. According to my Archeology professor, Aztlan does not exist now, never existed during the Aztec period of history, and the majority of the clowns clamoring for it have not one drop of Aztec blood in their DNA.
That in itself is quite humorous when you think about it, because they would have been nothing more than sacrificial fodder to the real Aztecs, who did not easily make friends with those around them. People have a tendency to get a bit irritable when you continually kidnap the members of their tribes and rip their hearts from their chests in tribute to your fire god. That's why the Spanish were so easily able to defeat the Aztecs. The surrounding native tribes hated them and were more than eager to help the Spanish all but destroy the Aztecs.
Such a proud history.

Aztlan- The American Southwest, specifically the territory of northern Mexico ceded to the United States by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. The term is used especially by Chicano-rights activists. the name Aztlán was taken up by some Chicano activists of the 1960s and 1970s to refer to the area of the Southwestern United States ceded to the United States after the Mexican-American War. Aztlan appears in the title of the 1968 manifesto issued by the Chicano youth movement, the Plan Espiritual de Aztlán, as well as the names of several organizations, such as MEChA, (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán, "Chicano Student Movement of Aztlán").
