It doesn't really matter. Most commonly, it gets addressed to mommy. But it feels good and makes it seems so real to the mommy to get it addressed to baby. Many of my gifts were addressed to my son. It also gives mommy something to put in the baby book. "Your first piece of mail"....

I usually address the gifts to the Mother and then I mention the baby in the card. For my baby shower it was done both ways.

The shower is for the mother. (or parents if it is a co-ed shower). Gifts after the birth are often addressed to the baby, but they could also be addressed to the parents.

Since the baby isn't born yet, I guess most stuff might be addressed to the mother.

I will usually try to do a little something for both. Maybe a bath basket with bath products, washclothes, etc for both of them. Or something like that. It's been awhile since I was at a shower, but I've always tried to come up with something creative for both.
