why we need this points and the levels from this site?

It's not a matter of NEEDING the points and levels. Some people just WANT the points and levels.

Might as well ask why Yahoo Answers needs avatars. Or a green header, or all those flags next to the country names.

I like "jane B"s answer as well. 25% of her answers rate a '"best answer" 10 points. That means that one out of four of her responses actually manages to help someone.

I thought I was doing pretty good with my 15%!

We DON"T need either but there's just something about it that feels good!

I think it's neat being able to help out other people and sharing information. Getting "best answer" points indicates that you are doing a good job at answering so it's like a pat on the back!

We don't really need the points but to move from one level to another we need as many points possible ....

It doesn't really gain you anyting except for the points themselves... and like gambling it has an addictive quality that just keeps you here.
