I am an early childhood professional and research suggest that you should go as long as you can, but at least 6 months. If you can't do that at least 6 weeks to help strengthen your baby's immune system. If you find it difficult to breastfeed exclusively, than breast feed when you can, some babies get nipple confusion, but many don't and can handle it.
even if you have to pump when at work or school and freeze the milk for later use is a better choice than formula.
Your breast milk changes as the baby nutritional needs change, formula stays the same.
Hope this helps. You can email me if you have more questions Shinka_98@yahoo.com

You should breastfeed her at least a year, and longer if you both still need or want to do it. It's just a whole lot easier to not have to pack up bottles, formula and bottled water and trying to find a place to heat it all. When you breastfeed all you do is open your shirt. It does get a lot easier, but if it doesn't, do not let the nipple nazis guilt you to death. Baby formula is on the market for a reason. Not everyone can breastfeed, and even every baby is different.

Everyone is different. My daughter who is very much an earth mother usually feeds until about age 3 or more. She had one that stopped on her own at age 2. She has breast fed through out her pregnancy and also tandem fed. Her 2 year old and her new baby. Everyone is different. If you can make it through the first six weeks you can feed for 6 years. Yes I did know a la leche league lady who was still breast feeding her 6 year old. The longer you feed the less allergies children have. There is also an extra protien in your milk that helps the brain develop better. All the vitimins you milk has are easily digested.

The doctors say at around one year because they can eat what we eat and they can get the nutrition that they need from that. Right now your daughter is dependant upon milk for nutrition and if you stop breast feeding your going to have to spend like 20+ dollars a week to feed her so I would continue doing what you are doing if you can. Also you should get a book called What to Expect the First Year. You can get it at walmart or any book store. It had answers to all my questions. Awesome book and you only read a few pages for each month.

totally your call... some people never breastfeed, some stop when they go back to work, others when the baby gets teeth! I never had the chance to breastfeed my daughter, but have no regrets now... do what's right for you! Good luck!

when YOU as her mother feel like its time. there is no set rule except doctors recommend you breastfeed til she's 1, but there's no guarantee that your body will go along with that. if you want to keep breastfeeding past 1, go for it, or if you want to stop when she gets teeth, she'll be fine too. really, how many people do you know who can say they're healthy, successful adults just b/c their mom breastfed them for the correct length of time? its just not that serious. just take it one day at a time instead of "scheduling" her milestones (like graduating from the breast.)

Good for you girl. You have a one month old and have time for the computer? I'm impressed. They usually say to give it like six months or so. I stopped when my daughter was three months and she is just fine now.
