I had this summons in april regarding public urination in NYC. Im questioning if its worth getting a lawyer or take the chance that the cop wont show up. Im also a permanent resident and not an american citizen, if it ends up in my records is there any way it could prevent me from being naturalized or having it delayed?

Decide first what you want the lawyer to do for you. Is he to say that you were not urinating? It wasn't urine, but apple cider? Everyone does it? It was not in public? It's immigrant profiling?

It might be more to your benefit to appear in court and explain to the judge that where you come from it's common practice to pee in public and you're just not familiar yet with the laws of your new land. Show him that you know where the bathrooms are now and your friend (bring one to court with you) showed you how to use them.

A reasonable judge will decide.

Pay the ticket and avoid an appearance in court. If you go to court you risk having it put on your records. public urination seems very minor. But if you feel you need to speak to an attorney, one should be able to tell you whats the worst you could face.
