He just has a few patches of dry skin and is scratching alot. I don't want him on sterioids and alot of medicine. I have read both of the above are good, but I would like to know if anyone has used them and if they helped.

have used them, not impressed with them. changed the dog's diet to Nutro Max which improved his coat and skin tremendously and stopped the dry patches. It contains the highest level of linoleac acid of any pet food...and that linoleac acid is what solves the dry skin problems.

I haven't used those products because I haven't needed to.

The most common cause for dry skin, in 90% of dogs, is preservatives in dog food. It is so important that you find a brand of dry dog biscuits that have no preservatives, artificial colours, or artifical flavours. When you have this preservative-free dog food, pour a small amount of olive oil over it occasionally to moisten your dog's skin. You can also add a raw egg once a week. In addition, give your dog raw, meaty, split marrow-bones, one a week. Make sure they are split longwise so the dog can eat the oily marrow which is essential to their diets.

In all the dogs I have had or known, this simple diet has eliminated dry skin problems without the need for creams or medicines. Treat the cause, not the symptons. Good night, and good luck.

What are you feeding your dog? That is important. could be allergy based. If the food has a high corn content could be the problem. Or it isn't getting enough essential fatty acids. Try asking a vet about omega-fend or similar product. Easy to add to food and works well.

I fed my dogs a mix of raw eggs and olive oil three times a week and they have never had dry skin. I live in Las Vegas so I would say it works well. I have a large dog and give him three eggs and 1/4 cup of olive oil. he is 95lbs.
