She was convicted of social security fraud, and was deported and returned illegally. She received a special stay of deportation previously because her son was sick. Now she is just defying the law.

What do you think?

Is she a poster child for the pro-illegal movement, or a prime example of anti-illegal concern that our laws are not being enforced?

Have you read these Medi? She is an organizer of a pro-illegal group after her 2002 arrest which is how she got the extension from Congress initially. She is saying she is the symbol of the movement and is not going anywhere.

sqwirlsgirl - I agree except that I meant a prime example of how are laws aren't being enforced even when the government knows precisely where someone is. They keep trying to persuade us that they are making a real effort, but don't even pick the low hanging fruit.

She has no right to claim sanctuary that is for people that are being persecuted religiously or their life is in danger back home. she is a criminal and needs to be deported. She stands as a symbol of defiance to our laws, and our sovereignty, their are so many like her using fake SS# and defying our law, she should be made and example of especially, because of her defiance. I am sick of people running across our borders and saying to bad I am here and I am staying whether you like it or not.

Well from my point of view she hasn't helped SWAY any fence straddlers to the pro-side thats for sure.

That being said I don't consider her a "prime example" for the anti-illegal cause. Even I could find better poster children for that.

I think in this one instance I am strongly for deportation NOT ONLY because she drug in the church BUT also because of her history. Also as a "mother" I find it a little sickening she keeps hiding behind her child.

I will probably get killed for this answer BUT that is how I feel.

Actually no, that sad spectacle just points out more of just how desperate people are getting to bolt out of Mexico. Ironically, the problem is self-reinforcing. People have to 'dig in' in Mexico, and improve it, and MAKE the place better instead of just running away to a percieved better life. Mexico's got people, it's got resources, now it needs a good direction, a plan, a good positive philosophy to improve livability and opportunity for its' citizens.

The pity party's over. Mexico needs to sit down with other countries and get a handle on its' problems, PRONTO! I think if they really tried to do that, we could somehow try to help them...
but only after they've laid out a solid plan of action that doesn't involve trying to move into the United States in toto...

Just heard on the news that Judge Neopolitano feels she has a greater case on the fact that the kid is American and his civil rights may be affected by removing his mother. I think the child becomes the poster child, and her illegal doings the catch22 of our laws.

No,shes only trying to better her own cause.Shes a criminal and belongs in jail and then deported after her sentence ends.Shes an opportunist and a schemer and a criminal.she can take her anchor baby with her and when he gets 18 he can come back to this country if he wants.
I have no sympathy for her at all.She wasn't desperate, shes done this before and was caught and deported.

Probably not, but she is not "pro-illegal America" she is just Elvira. She should not be held responsible for how the media percieves her actions.
