You may have sleep apnea. Do this test, if you get a score above 9, then you should see a doctor about it.
Rate your chances of dozing off on a scale of 0-3 (0=no chance, 1=slight chance, 2=moderate chance and 3=highly possible) against the above situations:
1.Sitting and reading
2.Watching TV
3.Sitting inactive in a public place (e.g. a theatre or meeting)
4.As a passenger in a car for an hour without a break
5.Lying down to rest in the afternoon when circumstances permit
6. Sitting and talking to someone
7. Sitting quietly after a lunch without alcohol
8. In a car, while stopped for a few minutes in the traffic
When you have this condition, you may wake up several times a night without knowing. Your brain doesn't get enough oxygen and you are 'brain damaged'. Other symptoms include: excessive sweating at night, waking up with dry mouth, driving on 'autopilot', being dazed and confused, wanting to sleep during the day, waking up with a tiny headache that goes away once you got up. I hope it helps. Good luck, get yourself checked out by the doctor.

There is a long list of possibilities.
First, are you:
drinking too close to bedtime?
Any caffeine after 6 pm?
Eating dinner too late?
On any medications that might impact?
Depression is a key issue, often causing insomnia or disturbed sleep.
Is your room very dark?
is the temperature cool (64 is best).?
You could have a sleep disorder that is preventing you from getting into the deepest sleep. only a sleep test will confirm that, and it doesn't necessarily answer "why."
You may be one of the people who needs 9 hours a night.
Read up on getting a good nights' sleep, do everything you can. if that doesn't help, see a doctor to rule out thyroid, anemia, or other conditions.
Sweet dreams!

Sounds like you aint sleeping deeply enough to benefit, i'm exactly the same, I totally hate getting up no matter how much sleep I get, I still feel really tired and heavy eyed, i'm only 23. The thing iv'e found works best is doing an hour of Yoga just before bed, it totally relaxes you and you get an amazing nights sleep. It isn't always convenient though, and lets face it sometimes I can't be bothered so I use a meditation tape that is just a man talking you through relaxing each muscle in your body...you don't even get to hear the end cos you're well and truly zonked.xxxx

You can have 5 hours of good quality sleep and feel rested and sleep 8 and feel tired. It's how good you sleep not just how long.If you snore or have sleep apnea then that can affect your sleep. What you eat or do before bed makes a difference also. I would let your doc know and maybe order a sleep study if it continues to be a problem.

You could have what's known as sleep apnea. It's a condition where you stop breathing and inadvertently wake up many times throughout the night without knowing it. This disrupts your sleep patterns. Sleep apnea is a very serious condition and could lead to stroke.I was diagnosed several years ago. You should go for a sleep study.

I had the same problem, and while I was pregnant I found out I had to have my gallbladder out, I cut back the caffine in my diet, and didn't eat after nine at night. that way my body wasn't trying to work when I went to sleep and I wasn't hiped up on caffine (pop, coffee, chocolate and so on)
You can take a bath or a shower before you go to bed to wind down, but you can also take a shower in the morning to wake you up, which I always find refreshing.
If none of this works for you either way you should still talk to your doctor to rule out any other problems.
I don't like to go to bed mad, also because it cuts into my sleep time. Look at what your daily routine is and see what changes need to be made.

B vitamins. Good food. Sometimes the ventilation in offices isn't that great. Does anyone else in your office feel the same sleepiness? Maybe its just not you. A lot of office buildings have some very sick people because of carpets, paint etc. An older building could have urea formaldehyde in the walls in that case it should be checked by the owners every year or removed.Check it out for your healths sake.

you will not believe this but you might be over sleeping! try 6 hours and see how you feel. Then I would like you to take notice of the food you eat, write them day, for aweek then check it out and see if you are eating right, that might be the problem. You could also try taking vitamins.
Good luck
Check with doctor first before taking any vitamis

It may be you need a new pillow, a new mattress, or a new sleeping position. If you are feeling particularly fatigued in the lower back, try sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees. I have worked for Chiropractors since '98 and those are some simple home instructions we have always advised.
