I'm a hair stylist. Perms don't damage your hair as bad as everyone else makes it seam, unless youre always putting chemicals in it, like tinting your hair or relaxing it.
I got a perm, but I know how to take care of my hair, and there is no major difference to healthy hair.
If you always use chemicals on your hair, use an acid based perm, if your hair is still virgin, you can use alkaline. Its completely safe. Your local beauty supply store caries leave-in conditioners or treatments for your hair. and believe it or not that new herbal essence, break's over, really work....
Perm your hair, that's why we are here, I personally recommend a spiral perm, its got more body but it looks softer. Your stylist will show you what the difference is. Use a large perm rod, and youre set. Beauty is not a guilt, it's confidence... I promise you'll feel beautiful.

First u sit in front of ur mirror, n visualize how u would look with a new hair styles... And nevr do a short cut first, do a gradually cut so as to see the effect of the looks. And get it done by a professional...remember for some person shorter hair makes them more younger n attractive so experiment before u makes the final move to cut.

DO NOT PERM IT!! I permed my hair and it completely damaged my hair and now I'm having to grow it back out and had to chop most of the damaged parts off! I suggest just a clean bob around the chin. That way you can curl it under, flip it out for fun and still put it half way up to get it out of your face and it's still off your neck!

Maybe keep putting it up for a while and do some damage control before perming it. I'm about your age and I usually do my hair like my avatar, actually. It's younger looking if you leave the ends loose but it's more mature (but not matronly) to tuck them in. I like this style. It stays free of tangles and stays out of my way.

Although older people like for you to think that shorter is better for older people, I have seen longer hair on older women that looks great . so the answer is as long as it looks good it doesn't matter, If it long and straggly then cut it until it looks good again.

check into a temporary curl or wave..will wear off in so many washing if you don't like it.i don't think age has anything to do with how comfy you are about yourself. if you find a 'do' that you like..do it.,,,,,hey ! do the do....lol !
