My cat will climb up on me when I'm sleeping and start purring hella loud and curl up in a ball and start sucking on his back nipples and drooling and doing the kneading thing and if you let him go too long he starts making this GROSS loud sucking noise like maggie simpson sucking her pacifier.
It's hideous. One vet said it might be cuz he was taken from his mom too early and he's pretending i am his mom. I don't really care why he does it I just want to know how to get him to STOP!

I think the bitter apple you can get at a pet store would work here. People use it all the time to spray on wires to keep cats and bunnies from chewing on them. I can't believe it could be harmful and just run it by your vet office. I bet the receptionist will know.

He will not stop kneading however since the cause of it was early deprivation of his mother's milk.

I would use the Rescue Remedy here. Most health foods stores carry it. You shake the little bottle and put three to four drops on the kitten's fur between his ears. Treat him for about ten nights with this.

Funny, I had posted on a Yahoo cat site about using this with cats and one of the members posted back she had gotten some and put it in her bag as she went to the hospital in labor. She said it really helped her relax and eased the pain of the contractions.

At another site the group leader made a post of about three solid pages of glowing reports from veterinarians on the effectiveness of the RR.

It costs about $18 and you are not going to find anything more effective that inexpensively.

Sucking His Nipples

Get a spray bottle of water and add a small amount of liquid dish soap, Every time your cat does any unwanted behavior, give him a squirt. The object is to deter, not punish so don't soak or chase the poor cat. When he goes to clean himself, the mild taste of soap will turn him off. He will soon learn which actions are unwanted via simple learned discipline. Works great for clawing, toilet training, etc. Also make sure you are the only one to discipline. If friends come over and spray him or the spray is used for fun, your cat will get the wrong message.

It is a behaviour that may be caused by stress or by being taken from it's mom too soon. However, this type of behaviour may be stopped if you go to a vet. some vets specialize in behavour problems, and there are medications that can be given to stop the compulsive actions. Clomipramine hydrochloride is one I know of that has worked well for this problem.

This is not a problem, and don't try to get him to stop. The suckling is a means of self comforting for your kitten, and no harm comes from it. Kittens who are removed from their mothers too early will often do this for life. My kitten (who was hand raised) suckles on my toes, fingers, blankets, and her own paws at times. Your cat has chosen his nipples to suckle. This behavior is a throw back to nursing and provides the cat with the comfort associated with feeding from their mother. He may or may not stop this behavior, but it is not dangerous.

Spray his stomach with a product called Bitter Apple. It is safe for consumption. It is used on dogs when they have "hot spots" and they won't quit licking them.
We recently had this problem with a foster cat that was nursing on his mom long after she was spayed and he was neutered, (meaning it was no longer necessary for him to nurse.) I sprayed her stomach a couple of times with the Bitter Apple and it cured him. It just tastes really bad, it's not harmful.

Why do you want to stop him? Let him get whatever comfort from it he can.
