My first fulltime job didn't use it, but my current job uses my minor.
While it does make you feel like if you don't use the actual major you got your degree in, you wasted your money. However, a lot places are just looking to see if you have a degree. Having a degree shows that you're dedicated, you finish your goals, stuff like that.
Most real life skills that you pick up along the way are what get you jobs and builds resumes. Show that you got skills and that they are transferable, and you got a very good chance of getting the job you want.
A lot of places do use having a degree as a way to narrow down job applicants though.
So to answer your question, yes and no.

Not even close! I have a Bachelor of Divinity (today, although they award the more politically correct Bachelor of Theological Studies, I like the older term- it's about as close as I'll ever get to being holy!) I got my degree over the span of seven years while in the Army pursuing a career in the Infantry --going to strange countries, meeting exotic people, killing them and breaking their stuff.
In the sense of economics, yeah, a lot of doors were open to me when I retired from the service because I have a degree. I suspect from what I've seen even degrees in Underwater Basket Weaving or Subliminal Archery will translate into more opportunities. It's like a fraternity thing with the people who make the decisions; they put their time in, and if you did too, well, you've a leg up.
