I'm not against LEGAL immigration, considering my own parents immigrated. However, they immigrated LEGALLY. (My mother immigrated from Taiwan, while my dad immigrated from England.)

I feel that illegal immigrants make it harder for those trying to come here legally. Restrictions have been tightened, etc. Should illegal immigrants be deported?

Immediately cut OFF all benefits to Illegal ALIENS--no food stamps, no housing assistance, no FREE school/college..............

They will quickly deport themselves right back to their original homeland.

If they're here illegally, they should be rounded up and deported so our tax dollars don't have to be spent on them and their families. Your family came here legally and I'm sure they are a credit to their community - good for them. Don't think too many people are against legals - its the illegals we want to send packing.

Turn them back at the borders, making it clear that they will be shot if they try to advance, for one.

Also, make it clear that anyone who employs illegal aliens will be fined heavily and possibly jailed. Also, next time illegal aliens protest for benefits that not even all Americans have, INS agents and police should walk through the crowds and ask to see green cards. Those that don't have them, should be arrested and deported.

the united states is made up of immigrants...but a majority of those immigrants applied through legal procedures and process to have legal residence here in the u.s.. it is unfair for those that come here illegally to just gain legality... when there are millions of people who went through the legal process to be here.... i'm not against anyone here... but no one is an exception.. u want to be here u gotta applied through legal procedures and if u're granted residence u may stay... otherwise... even before u get legal residence or citizenship, u're a criminal that has broken the rules that makes up society here in the United States...if people think that they break rules in the name of freedom, then those who kill in the name of god are all welcome and free to go as they wish..its not fair..and of course... u wanna stay... apply first...just like everyone else who is here...

yes, they should be deported but since there are too many of them to find and export, and you don't want to rip families apart.....then let attrition do it.....

find and fine the employers who hire them, if the illegals have no easy access to jobs and therefore they have no means of support in this country.....they will go back to their own countries with their families...then let them apply legally like everyone else....

The most effective solution is to fix the problem. This is one of those few rare situations where the symptoms have to be addressed separately than the cause.

As to those already in the country, the most effective solution is to correct their immigrations status. Offer them a deal. They plead guilty to a misdemeanor violation of immigration laws, pay a fine, pay their back taxes, and get on with their lives.

This deal would only be available to those who have valid jobs, have been in the country for at least a year or who have family legally here, and who have no other criminal record. It's not amnesty, because it carries a criminal conviction. It just treats the crime more like driving without a license than stealing a car.

This also allows law enforcement to deal more harshly with those who have criminal records, and allows them to to focus efforts on stopping further entry rather than rounding up those who are already hear and not causing any harm.
