Instead of asking "what is wrong with it?" Ask "what's right with it?" Drinking among christians is a hot topic. The bible clearly states over and over again not to drink. More importantly we are not to be a stumbling block to others. Drinking is a stumbling block to many. Look, I am not telling you that you are bad. I struggled with this also. I thought if I had a drink every now and then it was no big deal. I didn't consider myself offending God. However, Paul tells us that there was nothing wrong with the meat but not to eat it because it was a stumbling block---ok I am going to be a bad Christian---that is in 1 or 2 corinthians and I can't remember where. :) Drinking is as I said a stumbling block. We are to be above reproach. That is my thought. You may feel differently. Pray and read the bible.

i am just curious, if you know the first miracle the Lord Jesus performed because Blessed Mary was a bit worried for the people who invited them over? The Miracle at the Wedding at Cana. Jesus turn jars of water into Wine. Drinking alcohol is not prohibited nor disallowed for Christians. But! remember "Gluttony" is a sin. Drinking too much or out of proportion constitute "Gluttony" then you are committing a sin, then that is not acceptable. Drinking alcohol per se is not, if it is in moderation or with limitation. Drinking socially is acceptable. And some doctors would even say that drinking alcohol, a shot or 2 twice or thrice a week does some good for your Cardio-Vascular system. It helps your body to loosen up a bit, especially after a day's work.

Why did Jesus turn water to wine? So people could celebrate a wedding.

Why did Jesus drink wine with his meals, during times of fellowship. To have times of fellowship.

Jesus is sinless, and since He drank without sin, so can you.

David Drank, Noah drank, not sure who did not drink. Just do not drink more than 1-2 drinks, for then you start to cross the line to being a drunk.

Too often religion is overly involved in the details of people’s lives specifying what they can and cannot do. This needs to be re-thought. Dancing with a loved one adds great joy to life. Why make people feel guilty over drinking a glass of wine with a dinner?

“As the caterpillar chooses the fairest leaves to lay her eggs on, so the priest [pastor or religious zealot] lays his curse on the fairest joys.” -- William Blake

Seriously, sounds like people are judgmental or are not very independent. God created each of us individually. Find a church that focuses on the widows and the needy and the sinners. That is what Christ did. And do not worry what others think, if what you are doing is within your business.

I don't think it is a sin to drink a little as you describe, but the word frowns on drunkedness. Paul told Timothy to drink a little wine for his stomach. The older men in our church said that was because the water was bad, after I got older that wasn't a good answer.
Colossians 2:16 says "Do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration, or a Sabbath." I think as long as you don't disrespect Him, it's okay to have a drink, but it's not okay to get commode- hugging drunk because you are supposed to be a witness. If people know you are a Christian, they will judge Him by you. That's an awsome responsibility.

No, i do not experience that eating is a sin, it truly is overdoing it it truly is the sin....also in case you deliver different people into it - then that turns right into a sin..... for instance......if a pal that you've been inviting to flow with you to church for a lengthy time period were to work out you out eating then say something like properly if it truly is how she is - then I dont favor to flow to church mutually with her......those hypocrites....then it truly is once you're overdoing it......or "sinning" with the objective to talk. I drink on social gathering, very hardly ever, yet there are purely 2 acquaintances which have seen me drink interior the perfect 3-4 years.....and possibly it truly is all which will ever see me, only with the aid of this example.......If i flow to the sea coast or something like that, i might want to have a tumbler of wine or a mixed drink yet i do not favor to jeopardize my witness.......

I can only answer for myself, but I think it is a matter of which church you are a member of. I am Southern Baptist, and we can be kicked out of church if we make a habit of drinking. I am a recovered alcoholic 16 years sober, and I have no problem with it. In fact is has probably helped me more than anything else. I had tried AA, all the abuse programs, and detox centers to no avail, but when I turned to Christ, the taste for alcohol was taken from me, and worked the same way with smoking. You can accomplish anything with God's help.

It is not a sin, however if you have a social drink and a believer who used to be an alcoholic (someone like me) sees you, they might think it's okay for believers to drink and whadyaknow, I'm off the wagon and getting run over by it. Paul said he would rather abstain from meat forever than to cause a believer who is weak in faith to fall. Also, scores of people look for reasons to point a finger at Christians and scream hypocrite, just do your best not to give them reason.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but the Bible does counsel quite firmly against taking strong drink. Many churches even use grape juice rather than wine for Communion, although the Holy Bible specifically advises the drinking of wine in rememberance of Jesus, and of course its transubstantiation into the literal Blood of Christ. Your life will not be one shred worse for giving up drink, actually, it will be much better. You are very wise for being concerned regarding strong drink.

Most Christians who drink are quick to point out that Jesus drank wine in the bible. Even so, we don't really know if that wine was alcoholic in nature. For instance, the bible does differentiate two kinds of wine...old wine & new wine. I'm sure that you've heard the parable of not putting new wine in old wine bottles? New wine is unfermented (non-alcoholic) wine...grape juice. When wine ferments it breaks down the sugars into alcohol and when it does this the wine expands...thus the rationale of not putting new wine into old wine bottles as this would cause an old wine bottle to burst! The bible doesn't really say if Jesus partook of "old" or alcoholic wine so we don't really know. We do know, however, that as a Jew he would have refused to eat leavened (yeast fermented) bread. If it is unlikely that he would have eaten fermented bread then it is also unlikely that he would have drank fermented drink. Besides, Jesus was supposed to be "perfect". Can you imagine a "perfect" being allowing himself or herself to get drunk or compromised?

I think as long as it is not an every day thing, it is alright. Look at the Catholic's ( I know because I used to be Catholic), they drink actual wine during communion. So no its not a sin. I drink occasionally when I go to dinner with my husband which is like 4 times a year.
