Walmart has this great book, its about textures. I think it is called fuzzy duckling, and you find it in the infant toddler section. Each page is a different texture, and you get to take his finder and rub and feel each different texture. Thats a cool book. There are other books that squek. There are three in one series, a dog, a cat and a tug boat, you can find too. You just have too look. Definatly dont want to go with thin cardboard at this stage, you want to go for the ones that are really thick. My daughter, 20 months loves the ones that squeak and the texture ones too.

Babies 'R' Us carries books that are great for children your sons age. They aren't paper or cardboard--my son used to eat those to. (I'd pick up the book and wonder how someone so precious could tear through the $15 book I JUST bought last week, lol)

The books are cloth or rubber, sometimes a combination of both. They are great because they can be washed when neccessary. There are also some great ones with plastic type pages--but not exactly plastic since that would cut a teething baby. My son loved them! They aren't very long so they keep his attention just long enough. They're bright colored, and have fun characters (puppies, cars, flowers, etc.).

Happy Reading!

Both my kids LOVED an over sized cardboard shortened version of Go Dogs Go by Dr. Seuss. They have lil motions for each page. Most used book we own and we have A LOT of books!

Sometimes I Like to Curl up in a Ball by Vicki Churchill and Charles Fuge is one of the best books I've found for this age group. It's cute, it moves fast, you can get it in a thick board book, its a rythmic read and has wonderful illustrations. Kids love it and I bet you will too.

Here it is at amazon:

Take him to the library and let him chose. Heavy Duty Duck books make a good start, they can relate from the park.
My daughter had me read her the first 2 Harry Potters before they had been heard of, she chose them herself along with loads of other great stuff. She's been published herself now.

Reader's Digest has a line of Sesame Street books which are almost indestructable....my daughter received a set from her great grandparents and they're not being well loved for a 3rd time by a neighbour's child....if I didn't know better, you can barely tell that they've been chewed, tossed, beaten and abused....And not only are they sturdy, they've got great stories in them.

Pat the Bunny. I can't promise he won't try to eat it, but he might just be taken by the sensory things and pay more attention to them.

Also, there are great cloth books out for younger kids, so explore some of those. They have things to put in pockets and stuff to handle, but you can throw them in the washer if need be.

There are "bath books" made of vinyl that he can chew on. Also some cloth books.

For a title of a book he might enjoy for the pictures/ story etc.
Dinosaur's Binkit.

Have you ever heard of stories about this little girl named Ramona, specifically Ramona the pest. This series about Ramona is an old one, so you may need to do a search on the internet or check your local library. They are fun for a parents to read to their little kids.
