How completely stupid are you? Of course it's not okay to hit your children. It's called child abuse, asshat.

According to God, "spare the rod, spoil the child". Children need to be disciplined. Sometimes a spanking will help a child understand the severity of what they have done.
Clearly, there is a difference between discipline and abuse. Spanking or hitting should NOT be the ONLY way a child is dealt with. There are many ways to reinforce rules set by parents.

I believe that there are some things in this world that are no ones business. How you decide to punish your children should be your decision not the whole world. No, You shouldn't beat your child ever, but if they try to put their hand on a hot stove their hand needs to be swatted away. If they hit their sister/brother they should be hit back.
This is one of the things that is wrong with this world. Deciding what we are allowed to feed our children, deciding how we are allowed to raise our children, people need to mind their own business. If some kid is throwing a temper tantrum in the store for a toy, and the mother says no because he's not behaving, and a complete stranger buys the toy for that child, that stranger is helping to raise a little @$$ of a child who will walk all over their parents. My mom left my brother in the store when he trew that tantrum (well, she really walked to the end of the aisle and hid on the other side) but he learned that when she said no she meant no.
PEOPLE NEED TO RAISE THEIR KIDS HOW THEY WANT TO AND BUTT OUT OF EVERYONE ELSE'S LIFE!

Me well I say, if you are really upset, then no. But your children must grow up with respect for other people, and that starts in the home. No respect for mum and dad = no respect for anything (teachers, property etc) so if all other methods fail then ......

Absolutely! There are enough, ill disciplined, spoiled brats running around! Help eliminate the problem! To be fair you shouldn't do it if you are too angry and you should impress on the kid the gravity of his stupidity with other punishments as well!!

i personally think that lightly tapping your child is okay if they are naughty. how else will they learn to stop doing bad things? as long as you don't use some kind of weapon/object that could seriously injure them i think it's fine. i don't mean that you should hurt them in anyway, but just so they know it's wrong.
but that is just my own opinion
i do suppose telling them off is good enough though..
when i was younger i was smacked if i did something naughty, and it helped me learn what was right and wrong. just make sure you praise them when they are well behaved

It's okay to hit them, not to beat them. Know your own strength, and maintain your anger. Make sure you talk to them after wards and let them know why you hit them...and not because they pissed you off. I tell my daughter all the time, she has to listen to what I say and do it right away; it's not right to ignore me because it is very disrespectful...and other reasons.
