The background behind the genealogy in Genesis 5 is one of our most frequently asked questions.
Since the ten Hebrew names are proper names, they are not translated but only transliterated to approximate the way they were pronounced. The meaning of proper names can be a difficult pursuit since direct translations are not readily available. Many study aids, such as conventional lexicons, can prove superficial when dealing with proper names. Even a conventional Hebrew lexicon can prove disappointing. A study of the original roots, however, can yield some fascinating insights. (It should be recognized, however, that the views concerning the meaning and significance of the original roots are not free of controversy and are subject to variant readings. This is why we receive so many questions or comments on variations.)
Adam
The first name, Adam, comes from Adam, and means "man." As the first man, that seems straightforward enough.
Seth
Adam's son was named Seth, which means "appointed." When he was born Eve said, "For God hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew."
Enoch
Seth's son was called Enoch, which means "mortal," "frail," or "miserable." It is from the root anash: to be incurable; used of a wound, grief, woe, sickness, or wickedness. (It was in the days of Enoch that men began to defile the name of the Living God)
Kenan
Enoch's son was named Kenan, from which can mean "sorrow," dirge," or "elegy." (The precise denotation is somewhat elusive; some study aids unfortunately presume an Aramaic root synonymous with "Cainan.") Balsam, looking down from the heights of Moab, employed a pun upon the name of the Kenites when he prophesied their destruction.
Mahalalel
Kenan's son was Mahalalel, from mahalal, which means "blessed" or "praise"; and El, the name for God. Thus, Mahalalel means "the Blessed God." Often Hebrew names included El, the name of God, as Dani-el, "God is my Judge," Nathani-el, "Gift of God," etc.
Jared
Mahalalel's son was named Jared, from the verb yaradh, meaning "shall come down." Some authorities suggest that this might have been an allusion to the "Sons of God" who "came down" to corrupt the daughters of men, resulting in the Nephilim ("Fallen Ones") of Genesis 6.3.
Enoch
Jared's son was named Enoch, which means "teaching," or "commencement." He was the first of four generations of preachers. In fact, the earliest recorded prophecy was by Enoch, which amazingly enough deals with the Second Coming of Christ.
Methuselah
The Flood of Noah did not come as a surprise. It had been preached on for four generations. But something strange happened when Enoch was 65, from which time "he walked with God." Enoch was given a prophecy that as long as his son was alive, the judgment of the flood would be withheld; but as soon as he died, the flood would be sent forth.
Enoch named his son to reflect this prophecy. The name Methuselah comes from two roots: muth, a root that means "death"5 ; and from shalach, which means "to bring," or "to send forth." Thus, the name Methuselah signifies, "his death shall bring."6
And, indeed, in the year that Methuselah died, the flood came. Methuselah was 187 when he had Lamech, and lived 782 years more. Lamech had Noah when he was 182.7 The Flood came in Noah's 600th year.8 187 + 182 + 600 = 969, Methuselah's age when he died.
It is interesting that Methuselah's life was, in effect, a symbol of God's mercy in forestalling the coming judgment of the flood. It is therefore fitting that his lifetime is the oldest in the Bible, symbolizing the extreme extensiveness of God's mercy.
Lamech
Methuselah's son was named Lamech, a root still evident today in our own English word, "lament" or "lamentation." Lamech suggests "despairing." (This name is also linked to the Lamech in Cain's line who inadvertently killed his son Tubal-Cain in a hunting incident.
Noah
Lamech, of course, is the father of Noah, which is derived from nacham , "to bring relief" or "comfort," as Lamech himself explains.
Name - Meaning
Adam - Man
Seth - Appointed
Enosh- Mortal
Kenan - Sorrow
Mahalalel - The Blessed One
Jared - Shall Come Down
Enoch - Teaching
Methuselah - His Death Shall Bring
Lamech - The Despairing
Noah - Rest and Comfort
PUT THEM IN ORDER:
"Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow, (but) the Blessed One shall come down teaching that His death shall bring (the) despairing rest and comfort."
This same thing can also be done if you place the NAMES OF THE TRIBES OF ISRAEL FROM ELDEST TO YOUNGEST.
For female names, there is Tabitha=Dorca's - Gazelle from the N.T., there is Rahab, listed in the genealogy of Christ, Ruth a faithful servant of God and best friend to Naomi her daughter in law, an ex-preistess of Moab. Naomi loved her mother in law so much she was inspired to serve God. There is Sapphira who died from lying to the Holy Spirit. Queen Sheba & Queen Esther another great Queen who saved the Jewish peoples. There's Sophia, Martha, Miriam (Mose's sister), etc. There should be books in your public library with "names from the Bible" Good luck!

There are many names in the Bible but none are meaningful because the Bible is nothing more than man-made fantasy. Choose any name you like, but not because there are religious connotations, but because you like the name. Remember your children may not believe in religion the way you do when they are older, and there is very definitely a trend with the younger generation to move away from religion because of the many troubles (violence, murder, war) that religion has inflicted on human beings since humanity began.
Furthermore, your children may be subjected to ridicule by their peers as they grow up because of their religious connections which could cause further damage to their emotional state, over and above the damage that will be caused by religion to their innocent minds. Religion, whether you agree or disagree, is a very destructive force in our world.
Less and less people today believe in the Bible because the Bible is trash.
The Bible is the biggest load of garbage and codswallop ever written by man, and I’m sure it will go down in history as the greatest load of gobbledygook ever to inflict such traumatic mental and physical damage on humanity, but still today, some people sadly believe the Bible to be true. That’s very sad indeed. Very sad.
When people quote various passages from the Bible, for example ...
Mathew 5:29-30 God encouraged self-mutilation.
Isaiah 13:15-18 God allowed women raped and little children slaughtered.
Genesis 6:11-17 and 7:11-24 God is the greatest mass murder in history.
What happens? Religious people pop up from under every stone with the same old garbage. “That was the old Bible, or we’ve changed the meaning, or we’ve changed the context, or the quotes are out of context or or or, excuse after excuse.”
The fact is, they are Bible quotes, and the Bible is full of evil atrocities which religious people continually cover up, yet seem happy to drum into the minds of gullible little children. This is such a shameful disgrace in a civilised world.
If religious people are unable to apply commonsense and logic to develop a simple moral code to live by, then perhaps they could strip out of the Bible the evil, murders, rapes, abuse, and all traumatic references. Granted there will not be a lot left to read, but at least religious people may end up with a decent moral code to follow based on good, and not scare the living daylights out of innocent little children.
Just be careful if you want to involve your children in this Bible mess, because you may regret your decision when they are older and your children have more sense than their parents.

Well there are no twin boys and girls mentioned so I think you would have to decide names of a man and a woman from the bible that you admire. For girls I like Lydia because she was a strong business women who managed a church; Pricilla was a women mentioned a lot by Paul (actually mentioned more then her husband Aquilla) because they traveled with Paul and made tents to fund their mission. She is considered a posible author for the book of Hebrews. I love Tamar the daughter in law of Judah because she was was a clever woman who would not except the situation that men had forced on her and did what she had to to survive. My name is Sarah and I am proud of that because she was a beautiful and clever woman. She didn't always do what was right but she tought for her self. Of course you must consider Esther (Hadassah is Hebrew) because she was one woman who stopped the genenicide of her people.
For a boy I would think again about what you hope for. A warrier, King and Poet like David, a Prophet like John, a Martyr like Stephen. Personally I like Jonathan because he was a good friend and a brother. My brothers name is Jonathan btw. Sarah and Jonathan is what we are.
Good luck with twins!
