People fear what they don't know. And what comes after death is a pretty uncertain thing. Also, people fear pain generally and death tends to involve pain.

It's because of culture my friend... why do people in other societies don't fear death, like hara-kiri japanesses?
It's coz they understand death as sth else. For atheists and occidental peolpe death would mean nothing or just stop existing.
Try some reading about. Elizabeth Kubler-ross is what I recomend... she's awesome. You'll never fear death again after reading that book.

Who are WE? I am not afraid of death. I don't want to die just yet because I want to experience my baby grandson's life for a while, but I am not afraid. Just don't make me be in pain ..... I don't handle pain meds well.

death is soooo finally, like one moment you're laughing, talking, having a great time then poof! you're gone. Saw it happen to my cousin last week. 16 yrs old, no seat belt, rolled his car -- it landed on him. We were at a family reunion just minutes before. Death is so final!
