You mean disease?

The answer is that it can be. It depends on the individual and his/her ability to effectively find and use the various treatments available. For example, most people don't know that the best treatment for depression is the combination therapy of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (
aka CBT) and an anti-depressant. At best people will say talk therapy plus medication, but that really is not accurate. Research has shown over and over again that not all talk therapies are created equal, and CBT is superior to all other therapies and medication alone. Most physicians and other healthcare providers don't know this either.

once you have been given a diagnosis of depression, yeah, it's pretty much there for the rest of your life~but that doesn't make it a life sentence because depression can be controlled pretty well with therapy and the right medications.

so sometimes even though you have depression, you may not necessarily feel depressed. but you have to keep taking your meds, or it (the depression) can get really bad all of a sudden, so it is just better and easier to keep it under control by taking your meds the way the dr. has told you.

not everyone has severe chronic depression; there are some who get depressed for a couple of weeks, months, or a year~ they do therapy and maybe some pills, and some of them never have to deal with it again in their lifetimes.

i personally have never known any one who was that lucky. i hope that you are one of those lucky ones.

People. Come on.

A) It isn't a disease. It's hardly even a disorder. Everyone is depressed at some point. It's an emotion. When it begins to interfere with your life for extended periods of time, THEN it can be considered a disorder.

B) Many people simply come out of depression, like someone else on here said, "situational depression". Everyone goes through that at some point.

Depression is a decease. So is sin. Look at the Ten Commandments and see if you have broken any. Have you ever tolled a lie? Seek God and Seek a Savor.

It can be. If the chemical in your brain cannot balance itself. Or if it's situational depression, it should subside when you get over what made you depressed in the first place.

It can be a lifelong disease, or it can be a single episode caused by some traumatic event or a loss of a loved one. In either case you can overcome it with counseling.
