i highly recommend you getting a boxer. they're a wonderful breed. they're always gentle, especially with children. they can be protective, so theres no worry of anything happening. it is sad that boxers are prone to cancer, but as far as them needing obedience training, its untrue. obedience training is a great thing. but you can easily teach your boxer yourself. we've had boxers my entire life. we now have a fawn and white named Hank, and hes great. we've never put any of our boxers through training, and we've never had any problem with their behavior. they're very smart dogs, and will quickly learn right from wrong. the only thing to keep in mind is that boxers are big dogs. ours is 91 lbs. not all grow to that size, but they arent a small breed. so if the size isnt a concern, i definitely recommend them. they're very loving affectionate dogs. they love to play and have great personality. i really think you'd be happy with one.

I have owned 3 Boxers since 1988, and loved every minute of their company as it seems everyone here has answered, also...BUT...you must determine if they fit your lifestyle first. Any dog is great in the right situation. Research the breed thoroughly (www.akc.org is a good start) and buy from a reputable breeder that screens their dogs for health problems common to the breed (no matter what breed you choose - they all have genetic defects that are known by good breeders & will certify their breeding stock before breeding). I hope you chose what works best for you & your family. Of course, I am rooting for the Boxer, LOL!

We have a 4 year old Boxer. She is great with the kids. In the afternoon she sits in the window waiting for the school bus to come. She doesn't shed much and having such short hair there's not too much grooming. But she does love to lick. The more excited she gets the more she licks. She'll lick me, or my clothes or the couch.... I don't know why. I have a friend who also has a boxer that licks a lot, I don't know if that's a boxer trait or just a coincidence. You might want to check into that first if doggy kisses bother you, if not I say, go for it!

I owned two Boxers now and my parents bred Boxers for 21 years. Fantastic breed. Funny, sweet, incredible with kids, low grooming required and good guardians too. Who can resist the happy bean dance they do when they're happy!!
Great choice if you are willing to include your dog as a full member of the family. Not a good one if you are going to leave him alone in the backyard in a kennel.
About their health... Yes cancer can be an issue, other breeds have other problems and Yes they don't live has long as other dogs of comparable sizes. We've had Boxers who lived 6 years and others who lived 14 years. Their sheer existence...however short for some, gave us some of the happiest moments we've ever had. Get a BOXER.

Just read the answers here. I have a 7 month old boxer and she is the best dog ever, she is loyal, loving and really great with kids. Mine is very lazy. They eat loads. Need loads of cuddles but you do need to be firm with them, they need to know you are the boss. they are the best dogs in the world! My boxer lays on the bottom of my 20 month ol little girls bed until she is asleep then she goes and lays in the boys room until they are asleep then she comes in my room with me, if there are any noises outside she wakes me up them seems to go and check on the kids then goes and stands at the front door until I let her outside. I'm sure its to check there is no-one out there. then she goes back upstairs checks in the kids room in the same order as she sleeps with them then after about 20 minutes she will settle down again. I am a single parent so she makes me feel really safe. She is the best. GET ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck. You won't regret it.

Boxers are intelligent, loving and make delightful companions. They are really clever and learn quickly. They sometimes require a dominant owner that can show them whos top dog though don't dominate them by harsh treatment. They also have high energy so if you won't have alot of time to play and excerise them then this is not the breed for you. To be absolutely sure research them. Here are some sites:www.nextdaypets.com/directory/breeds/1100050/ - 55k

I grew up with boxers. The first one would bark if I left the yard and would play football with the kids...catching the ball with his front paws...which upset the kids. He was like my best friend. The second one was very protective. He found an unattended baby on the beach and would not anyone near it until my mom came. They are very strong and very loyal. They were good with our cats I have a part boxer from the pound and I love her.

my mother has a boxer-lab mix, he is a great dog. He was horrible as a puppy and needed a lot of obedience training. He is now 8 years old and the best dog in the world I love him.

Have you done research on boxers? They are one of the leading breeds of dogs to develop cancers! They can be wonderful, but they also like to use their feet and can knock you down in a second. They need to have obedience training and can be really great dogs. But I've seen too many die too young. They are prone to certain types of mange to.
