Open your browser and type in the address bar
Stinger
This will take you to a McAfee site where you can download virus signatures onto a floppy disk. If you don't have a floppy drive, use a CD. Shut down your computer and wait a couple of minutes.
Disconnect your computer from the internet by unplugging your phone line. Restart your computer. Insert the disk and run it. It will scan the total content of your computer from the MBR through all the various files and folders and detect 'any' virus. Shut down your computer when it is done. Plug your telephone line back in. Restart computer and (if you don't have it), go to www.download.com and download and install AdAware SE
It is a freeware program, works with all operating systems, easy to use and will detect and identify any items remaining. Also, download CCleaner. It too is freeware and does not have any limitations. It will do a thorough job of cleaning up your computer. Doesn't hurt to run these programs at least once a week if you are on the internet quite a bit.

You can try Trend Micro's tools:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Might be difficult to do with the Internet problem but worth a shot.

NOTE: That Microsoft tool mentioned in the next answer only targets spyware. Not viruses. Actually, your problem could be spyware-related, not necessarily a virus. I'd recommend a combo virus and spyware scan. Try the Trend Micro above then move onto the Microsoft. Both are free, both are decent.

AVG - http://free.grisoft.com

You may also want to try clearing your startup programs to see if one of those is causing the problem. Go to Start, Run, and type in "Msconfig" without the quotes. Click the Startup tab, then disable All. Click Apply, Close, and Restart.

If the problem doesn't come back, go back to the Startup Tab, then add a few items, apply, close, and restart again to test. Keep going until you go through the entire list or find an item that causes the problem.

Nope I dont think there is any help for you.

Not having antivirus software is like dating prostitutes, sooner or later you are going to catch a nasty virus and that will be all she wrote.

Try AVG (probably available from download.com). Also, it may be worth getting yourself a copy of spybot.

when it is for free that is what you get. Spring for Norton or McAfee about $40.00. I prefer Norton, have used it in some risky situtations and it kept me safe.
