My pup recently ate a green onion, she is fine. We were chatting with friends and they told us that onions are poison to dogs. Could this possilbily be true??

Yes they are ery very toxic to dogs.
They cause Heinz Body Anemia. It kills red blood cells and those carry oxygen to the dogs tissues.
One green onion should not kill a medium to large dog but you may want to make her vomit if it just happened.
Call your vet and ask.

Onions will make a dog anemic. So it would be a slow poison. If they got cut they could bleed to death. Eating one green onion won't kill them. But it is best that they don't eat onions or garlic.

All onions are toxic to dogs! A little may not hurt her but keep an eye on her just in case.Check the ASPCA website if you are ever in doubt. Seriously, dogs should only have food specifically made for dogs.

Could and is. Not just green ones, but all onions-especailly raw. Im sure people before me already mentioned the other foods. Even common house plants-ivy are poison.

the onion its self is poison to cats and dogs unless its cooked but mine eats wild green onions and i havent had a problem yet

They are definitely not good for cats as they can cause a life-threatening anemia.
I will look to other answers here so I will know if that is true for dogs too.
I hope the dog-knowledgeable people here don't mind my butting in on their "territory". Every time I answer a cat question the dog questions come up at the bottom of the page. And I always like to learn things. Please accept my apologies if you find this annoying.

nah dogs come from another planet where all there is to eat is green onions, they are very good for them! UNLESS the sun (which is green on the dog onion planet) has some kind of negitive effects to the dogs who eat green onions.. you know kinda like with superman...

One onion isn't going to hurt her, but onions do cause anemia in dogs..It is not an instant thing, but would require more onion, or onion powder, or dried onion.

It is true. Onions are not good for dogs. But one onion is not gonna kill your lil sweetie. But you shouldn't feed dogs anything containing onions.
