Would a white person mixing with a hispanic person make the baby hispanic? mixed? whichever it more resembles? If immigration makes the hispanic population rise, and they mix with other races, are their offspring going to be considered hispanic?

Samdrian, that is where it gets trickier! most hispanic people take both the mothers and fathers last names, leaving them with 2. white Americans take only the fathers. So to say that my babies would be hispanic, how many last names should they get?

JT, if you want to get specific, I am Irish, English and Cherokee, my hubby is Native Mexican (Tlaxcaltecan),Spanish, and Italian. He is very dark, and his family still celebrates some of the indigenous traditions. I am very light and my family has been here in the US over 5 generations.

wholly crap! to the person named trouble, you are a horrible person. I dont need my husband to be white, I need him to be a good person, who is loving, hard-working, and faithful. I am not going to put color restrictions on that! You seriously sound like a crazy racist that is just out to piss people off. Get over yourself.

Since you specifically ask about hispanics, and I see this way too often, let me get one thing clear - Hispanic is NOT A RACE - it is only a classification meant to group together people whose native language is Spanish. There are only 3 races, white (caucasian), black (African), and Asian (which used to be called Mongoloid, and covers native populations like Am. Indians, but also people from Asia, such as Indians, Koreans, etc.).
If a caucasian male or female has a child with a person who is Hispanic, the race of the baby will be 1/2 determined by whatever race the Hispanic person is (white, black, or Asian) and 1/2 caucasian.
A big reason why people who don't know what the term "Hispanic" means, and that its not a race, believe it is a race is because the stereotypical "hispanic" ever shown in Hollywood, and a large percent of Mexicans, Caribbean Latins, and other Latin Americans who live in US are descended from both the caucasian Spanish Europeans, who "mixed" with the native Indians from Latin America, and the African slaves who the Spanish brought to Latin America.
Latin America does not have a lot of class mobility, and the slave owning white Spaniards, who had children with slaves did not give the family money to their "non-white" kids, the majority of Latin Americans who leave Latin America searching for wealth in America, are mixed White-Indian-African or White-Indian, which is where that Hollywood stereotype comes from.
Cameran Diaz is 1/2 Cuban, and her blue eyes and blond hair come from her blond/blue eyed Cuban dad, not her part Native American/German mother, who has dark hair and eyes.

This isnt an answer but why are white poepl called white? If you call an African American person "black" you are "politically incorrect." So why is "white" ok. Why is dont we call white poeple European american. Or better yet . In south africa there is a large population a white folks that have lived there for a few generation. Do we refer to these poeple as white?african american?European african americans?
I know I am way of track but this race crap is stupid. If I was half "white" and half hispanic I to would hope to be considered to be hispanic, for a few reason which all end in a better life for me. First off there are tons of college scholarships out there non of which are strickly limited to "white poeple"so any race may earn one.On the other hand there are many scholarships striclty limited to race or orgin. If a person decided to go staight to a carrer without going to college there is laws requiring employers to have so many minorities. Many big companies make it a point to promote as many minority members as they do "white." Now lets say for instance a hispanic male joins the army with is white buddy on the same day, getting the same job, same unit. Now 12 years down the road the hispanic has done well ,not anthing outstanding was never a recuiter or drill seargent but just remained in his field of work never exceeding the standard. While his body has been a drill seargent, a recruiter, an instructor and has been top of his field. For both individauls it has come time to be promoted by the department of the army, guess who would get promoted first ?
Besides all that crap, minority groups have a tighter community more love for each other. White folks on the other hand are not that way. Put 12 white poeple in a room for three hours with a stack of comics see what happens.....not a damn thing probably not even a high. Now put 12 mexicans,or african american,or what ever race other than white see what happens?Massive amounts of verbal and physical communication. Someone explain that.

Its all that individuals decision about what race they want to claim I don't think its fair to say I am white if your half Mexican like Jessica Alba but it's entirely that individuals decision like Alicia Keys being part black some people feel more in touch with one race than the other sometimes they just grow up with that group they claim more of also your referring to Mexico Mexicans Traditional they do the name games Mexican Americans don't on the other hand also people live life regardless of heritage and mixing is a part of human existence not for trying to mix for benefits regardless I think your digging way to deep and are also coming off insulting with uneducated assumptions and sarcastic babble. Also theres nothing royal about claiming the white race or marrying someone caucasion theres no difference in a woman except there personalities.

My husband is Mexican and we have a daughter, when I went to her first pediatricians visit I filled out her paper work that she was white, she has the fairest skin; overall you can't tell that she is mixed. When I got called back they were looking over her paperwork and saw that her father was Hispanic they changed it, I asked why; the nurse could not give me an answer. Needless to say we found another pediatrician. My friend had the same problem when her little boy started school. So for whatever reason they are considered Hispanic and not for what they look like.

First of all, you don't intermarry. If you do, it creates problems for the kid. Because one parent's family is white and the other is blank. They're a mixed race, and I don't really care about being politically correct about it. My dad's norwegian, and my mom's british. But they were both born in America. If the kid was born in America, he's not hispanic. He's AMERICAN! 100% Red-Blooded American!! So forget the color and the dash between the two races. Don't forget what country you're in.

White in America is a color and a race, not a status symbol like it is in Mexico. You will just have to accept that while you are here, white means European, no matter what the census says, no matter what darker people say and so on. White means white to tan (basically beige) skinned people whose ancestors (all of them) came from Europe.
To us Mexican means mixed. They claim their Spanish heritage only to assert the nobility it once represented and to include California as part of Mexico in their minds, and they claim their Indian status to say they are indigenous. Neither argument holds water.
Focus less on race and more on doing the right thing and getting along with people and you'd be surprised how many of us do the same.

Scottwatras answer is wrong. The Census Bureau does not decide a question of race. It is determined by the doctor and/or the birth mother. To answer the question you need to kow about genetics.
