Xanax, has been a miracle worker for many people who have panic attacks...it is very hard for you to stand by, because she is truly believing that she is at dooms door,...you need to remain calm...don't doubt her, and try to get her to take xanax very low doses,...to calm her when she starts feeling those attacks coming on, at least it might keep her from rushing to the hospital..cut out her caffeine, and sugar intake,...don't ever put guilt on her..there seems to be an association with triggering attacks...

I am very sorry to hear about your wife's panic disorder. I am a 57 year old man and I began to have a severe panic disorder problem beginning around the age of 30. I went for years of "talk therapy" with a psychiatrist without much success. Then, my doctor suggested I try Prozac. Within two weeks my panic episodes stopped and I have not had another episode since. It's been over 20 years now but I remember the horrible times I went through with those uncontrollable attacks.
My sincere wishes for a good outcome for your wife.

You cannot stop someone else from having a panic attack. Your wife can MANAGE her Panic Disorder by getting counseling and possibly taking medication. Encourage her to seek counseling or make an appointment for both of you and go along if she will not go by herself. But do NOT let her take meds without counseling. I see too many people on psych. meds prescribed by their Primary Care Physicians!! Counseling and medication work together. Good luck - MA in Psychology

i would suggest she go see a psychiatrist and get put on some medications, namely, an anti-depressant such as zoloft, lexapro, prozac, or celexa, and perhaps effexor, which is also an anti depressant/anti psychotic that can help to level out a person's moods. if her panic attacks are very severe she can even get some anti-anxiety medications for when she is having an attack. the psychiatrist would know all the right meds for her and can help her to find some that work and help control her panic attacks.

Take her to a psychologist. Panic disorders require medicine and counseling.

You can't stop her disorder. She had to be the one to get help. There are medications, relaxation techniques and therapy available. Panic attaacks/disorder can be debilitating. She is the one who needs to ask for the help.

You can't. My husband suffers from this, and medications have only helped to a minor extent. We live in a town of 12,000, with very limited things to do. He can't travel due to anxiety of been away from home. This is difficult for me because I like to go places and do things.
Just remember, you married her, "for better or worse, and In sickness and in health" Give her all the love and support you can. I am sure you would want her to do the same for you if you had this problem.

I'm sorry to say you can't.Be as understanding as you can and maybe you can get her to see a doctor.Panic is very real to the person involved even if someone else may think it's unfounded.

I don't think you can, except by being supportive. Have her talk to a physician and see what is going on. Sometimes it can be a physical problem.
