Spacers are used to prevent teeth from moving in where there is a gap, usually because a tooth came out early or one was extracted purposly. They are also used just before braces are put on to make a little space between the teeth to facilitate putting bands on.

You get spacers a week before you get braces. Spacers are tiny little rubberbands you put between your molars to create space. You need the space for when they put the brackets around your molars. A week later they put your Braces on. The metal thing they glue to your têeth.

Spacers are put on your molars before you get your (braces) bands on your teeth, they allow some spacing so that the bands can fit around your back molars, which will hold the rest of the braces in place

braces are the metal on your friends' teeth.
spacers are tiny little rubberbands that they actually put BETWEEN teeth to "separate" them; it provides room for wire that could possibly have to go there.
