One explanation could be that the lenses won't work porperly on that model. The MZ50 uses a variation of the Kaf mount that's incompatible with a lot of manual lenses: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentax_K_mount#KAF_mount
My obvious next step was to cross reference, but I couldn't find any 52mm or 58mm Pentax lenses.
52mm and 58mm come up as filter thread sizes and even as adaptors, but not as focal lenghts. Are you sure you provided the correct info?

Check NOW to see if any schools near you are providing photography classes for beginners. Classes would be starting any day now. Some camera shops do this also.

If you can't find a book to teach yourself, it is SO much easier to just pay someone a minor tuition to teach you. You'll save the money right away because you will stop wasting it on bad pictures.

You might also find a photography club that isn't too stuck up to help a beginner. Some are great and some are kind of snobby.

Check the high school, adult programs, community education, community college, technical education center... Maybe you can even search for "photography school" with your zip code.
