It depends on how the car is maintained. If it has regular oil changes, engine service, brake repairs, etc., you can far exceed 100,000 mi. If the car has little or no mainenance, chances are it will not last much longer. Take a look at the interior of the car, and it will probably give you an idea of how well it was taken care of.
P.S. - Star - I took my truck to Wal-Mart Tire & Lube for oil changes until they left the cap off and oil was everywhere, which I then had to take to the dealer to fix and clean. Were you the one??? (lol)

it depends on a great many things. first and foremost, make of the vehicle. hondas, volkswagens, toyotas- 100,000 miles is nothing to be concerned with. most domestic vehicles simply don't last as long. as long as a vehicle was well cared for, mileage isn't as much of a problem. regular oil changes, four matching tires, replacement parts from an OEM manufacturer- these are some clues that can indicate how well a car was cared for.

An average mileage on a car is between 1,000 to 1,200 miles per month. So multiply 1,100 (miles) x 12 (months) that gives you the miles per year, in this example is 13,200 miles. Now for a 90's car, you have to multiply 13,200 (miles) x 16 (years) = 211,200 miles. So a 90's car with 110k is good.

That used to be a lot of miles, but there could be a lot of good miles left on a car that has just turned over. Obbviously it depends on the car and how the other components are, but a 100K on a Toyota or Honda is nothing. Of course that same thing applys to BMW, Lexus, Mercedes. I would not jump too fast at an American car with those miles unless it was in excellent shape.

I use to work at Wal-Marts Tire Lube Express, and we considered anything over 110,000 miles high milage, but you have to keep in mind that they have improved alot in the way they are making motors now adays, and 100,000 or a little over isnt that bad. The past two cars I have bought have been over.
As long as you keep the oil checked to not run to low, and a regular oil change your car will last for a long time.
