A theocracy scares the CRAP out of me. They never work, they always become totalitarian dictatorships. Because whomever is in power can claim the infalliable authority of whatever god they claim to represent.
That is why the founding fathers of the US, many of which were closet pagans (the godess Diana used to be on top of the capital building), took great pains to avoid creating one!

The intrusion of religion and American politics is a VERY dangerous thing. What would be the difference in that and the Taliban of Afghanistan?? Religion should be kept completely out of politics. It's no place for it whatsoever....

Some. It scares me a little that my life could be governed by a religion. I see comments and questions in here that show how Christians do not see how many assumptions they make regarding the general acceptance of their ideas as right. That's a hard thing to battle.
It's just one slippery slope back to the Inquisition (though I don't think THAT will happen in the US unless we get taken over by a fundamentalist country, in which case I will have fought to the death and would, thus, no longer be worried about it.)

It's funny - where you see "intrusion of religion," I see absence of religion. Let's face it - terrorism, politics... these things are based in pride. When two people or two groups of people with such clashing interests collide, it ceases to be about God, and becomes a matter of pride. One group thinks they know better than the other group. Religion should have an aspect of practicality to it. Terrorism is not practical but radical; it is a desperate attempt at saving one's own political system according to their own radical, impractical beliefs.
Meanwhile, over here, we have kicked God out of schools and public places. Why? Because we think we know best. It's a matter of pride more than anything else.

It is not intruding when one is speaking Truth, you see no matter what religion, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, Judaism, they all have one simple Truth, that all people must be treated humainly, love one another and worship the God of your people. So if anything breaks this bond with your God, then rise up and fight with all your might. So no it is not a problem. If you lived in the conditions these people lived in, you too would risk everything, even loss of life, family and endure hardship for the American Dream created by our forefathers who by the way, also came here under the same pretext, only without borders to cross.

It's worrying me like crazy. I'm terrified that WW3 will not be a war between nations but rather an all-out holy war/crusade/jihad between Christians and Muslims.
And unfortunately, since over half of the world believes in one of the three main monotheistic religions, those of us who don't are pretty much screwed. Caught up in the middle of a fight that is pointless, scary, and crude.

No. This country was founded on religious beliefs, I know there are a lot of people out there that dont believe in God but you cant deny where our country came from, if you dont like or agree with what someone in politics is saying or doing you have that right. Just like Christians have the right to disagree with peoples beliefs who do not believe that there is a God.

Religion and matters of state should be kept separate because people frequently interpret the bible as they choose. Just like Bush saying god told him to go to war with Iraq. I doubt god (if he exists) would agree with killing thousands of people. Religion has been the cause of many wars over the years and still has a big part to play in them today.

What would worry me more is if people DID NOT let their religous beliefs intrude into their everyday lives. Your beliefs should have a place in everything you do. To claim a belief in God and refuse to let Him direct your daily life and decisions shows a callousness and carelessness about your faith. People seem to run from God, when it would be better to trust Him to work things out. Remeber, He knows the end from the beginning.

In politics it's a little alarming. Politics and religion should be kept separate and for good reason.
