I would recommend going there and getting a room yourself. Go and ask different places for price and decide where you want to stay. Even the city center is not that expensive (~€20 max per night). Don't forget that in Turkey you can always haggle for price of anything (except food and drink). I would also recommend that you do not pay up front so that if you decide to change place you won't loose money.

Try avoiding the city center of Bodrum and search hotels in the nearby bays. Bitez, Turkbuku, Yalikavak are very popular. For night life (if you are interested) there are good connections to the Bodrum center and to swim I would not recommend the city center at all.

In Bitez Bay, I can recommend Hakan Otel(www.hakanotel.com). It is quite small and good priced. You can contact hotel directly to make a reservation.

Bodrum is very small. You can probably negotiate a good price by emailing direct.Remember in the Fall and winter it is the off season there.Summer and Spring are the high season.

You can find a place when you get there, you don't need to make a reservation. But when you get there ask couple of different places for their prices, because people sometimes tend to overcharge the tourists. Look for "pansiyon"'s (turkish for smaller places than a hotel, they are quite nice and reasonable. You can also find cheap, small hotels without much of a star:)
