Why do you think your blessed with the things you have? god beleived that you deserved them but by becoming an atheist you will eventually have to repay him for everything he has given you that you have taken ungratefully. i mean i understand im not the best person in the world either but i try to live my life according the laws and guidelines god has set for us.

We Are Atheists Because...

* There is no proof of the existence of god.
* There is no need of, or use for, a god.
* A good god would be useless if it were not powerful.
* A powerful god would not deserve worship if he were not good.
* There is no all-powerful good god; otherwise there would be no imperfection.
* If this is the best world god can make, the stories of Heaven must be lies.
* History shows that godism is accompanied by ignorance and superstition.
* There has never been such intolerance and persecution as godists have practiced.
* Godism had to be fought when humankind made its successive steps toward science, liberty, and reform.
* Godism was invented in the earliest days of mankind's ignorance. It is incredible that primitive humans guessed wrongly about everything else, but discovered the truth about the origin of life. Everything about which science has discovered the origin was claimed previously to have been the work of a god. Godism recedes when a new fact is discovered. No new discovery ever supports a theistic explanation of anything.
* All revelation proves, on investigation, to be human, and generally fraudulent.
* Godism is consistent with crime, cruelty, envy, hatred, malice, and uncharitableness.

Atheism Teaches That...

* There is no heavenly father.
Humankind must protect the orphans and foundlings, or they will not be protected.

* There is no god to answer prayer.
Man must hear and help man.

* There is no hell.
We have no vindictive god or devil to fear or imitate.

* There is no atonement or salvation by faith.
We must face the consequences of our acts.

* There is no beneficent or malevolent intent in nature.
Life is a struggle against preventable and unpreventable evils. The cooperation of humankind is the only hope of the world.

* There is no chance after death to "do our bit."
We must do it now or never.

* There is no divine guardian of truth, goodness, beauty, and liberty.
These are attributes of humankind. We must defend them or they will perish from the earth.

Have a nice day!

First of all, billions did not live their life by the bible always. At one time the leading religion was Hinduism. So just because the majority believes one thing that makes them right? If you're asked what color a stop sign is in class and everyone answers blue, except for you saying red, are they right and you wrong? What about the people blessed with practically nothing? Does God love them less or something?

And also, I live my life peacefully and happily without the bible, explain that?

As an atheist, I do agree that there is much morality professed by religions. So, can't an atheist agree with some of the laws and precepts on how to live and enjoy life, without believing that some omnipotent being created the universe in 6 days and is watching over every move I make?

So- you believe in god because you are looking for an explanation of where you came from?

So- you believe in god, because billions of other people believe in god?

so- you believe in god becuase you have nice things in this world?

Hmmm. Maybe you just evolved from primodial slime, the masses are wrong, and you have nice things because captialism works, you worked hard, and got lucky.

Has god set these guidelines for us, or have we figured out the rules with which to live by ourselves?

Hopefully that helps you understand. It's an almost valid question- but atheists don't need to 'believe' and they don't need to have 'faith'. They can think for themselves. Most athiests understand that not everyone is lucky enough to have that mental capacity- and are understanding towards those who choose to enjoy life within the security of a religious belief.

Where do we come from? Have you ever heard of evolution? Why should i follow the bible when the bible was written by a bunch of men and not by god. Who knows what those men were smoking when they wrote the bible. I'm blessed with the things i have because i work hard for them. Look at homeless people, i'm sure some of them believe in god, but they don't have anything. So what are they blessed with? having nothing? If i stop working one day, do you think god will pay for my food and shelter? Just because a billion people live by the bible doesn't mean the other billion people, who don't live by it, are wrong.

When I was little we went to church every week. We spent part of our summers in bible school. Then one day we quit going. When I got older, I ask my dad why we stopped. He said the Pastor wanted 20% of the family's income every year. We could barely afford to live, let alone do that. Meanwhile the Pastor is living in a free house and driving a Cadillac. Since that I have never returned to church. Over my 39 years of life I have never robbed anyone, I treat my neighbors good, I don't cheat on my wife, and I have lived a happy and prosperous life. There has been alot of bad press about religion in the news over the last 10 years. Ranging from child molestation to money laundering. I now have a 5 year old daughter and I don't want her around this. When she gets older she can make her own decision on what she believes in. Tom Cruise believes god is a martian, is he? Who knows! I have a uncle who is a religious freak, 5 years ago he was against gays, now there okay. That is just one example of how his Baptist church changes in order to flow with society. Why are some things bad one day, and fine the next? Lance Armstrong said he wasn't sure about his religious beliefs until he flew over Ground Zero and he said there is know way there is a god that would let this happen. I agree with him.

Why should the fact that people live their lives by a book make it non fiction? The number of people who follow other books outnumber christians so wouldn't that make their books true as well. There are some good rules for how to live in the bible but they are not exclusive to the bible and the bible also has some very bad rules. Many atheists live good lives without guidance from any book and many terrible acts have been committed by people following the rules of their holy book.

"Why do you think [you're] blessed with the things you have?"

I do not think I was blessed with these things. I have the things I have because I have worked to achieve them.

"[I] don't understand how atheist[s] believe what they do."

I am an atheist because it is logical. Christianity has as much proof as Buddhism, Pastafarianism, Islam, and the Greek gods, as in, none. Until solid evidence for something as fantastical as religion has been provided, I will continue to live in the observable world and not worry about Cthulhu devouring humanity [1], Ragnarok destroying the universe [2], or being cursed for wearing clothes of mixed threads [3]. While there may be a chance of one of these being true, I'll take an Occam's Razor and go with the simplest explanation.

ya, well what i want to know is how u can believe in a book written and rewritten thousands of times in different ways by humans? u do know that we humans are falible(have faults)and lie don't u? how can u believe a bunch of men cuz it sure wasn't women who wrote it. christians never believed women had any human rights except the right to have children and take care of the stupid men who believe in their own word. how do u explain evolution which took billions of years and if u do believe the many scientists who've found bones of evidence of our evolution, in thousands of places all over the world, then how do u explain Adam and Eve not having protruding foreheads, dragging knuckles and speak in the language of ugh? everything evolved there's indisputible evidence of it, whereas no evidence of Adam and Eve except whats written in those bibles men wrote. as for the nice things ppl have in life they probably worked hard for that stuff. don't get me wrong i don't worship the devil or anything and i have my own beliefs, i'm just not about to fall for the largest scam to ever hit the world ( organized religion ). was probably one mans joke to see how many ppl he could get to believe there was some great being sitting in the clouds controlling everyone and everything. check out the catholic bible it's riddled with contradictions eg: have no others gods but me, oh wait a min. pray to Mary though she was a human not a god. if u can't answer these querries then maybe it is u who should rethink religion.

Just for your information there are also MILLIONS of atheists/agnostics/secularists:
(source:http://www.adherents.com/Religions_By_Adherents.html).

If you are an atheist, as am I you don't believe in Christian teachings. We do not need any particular books or teachings to live our lives by. I'm glad you are comfortable with what you believe so why don't you just be comfortable with others that believe differently??? I mean really, there are soooo many questions posted on here that ask the EXACT same things as you do, where do we come from? Why don't you follow this or that?? It's called free thinking and just try and accept we're not all the same!!

You have an interesting perspective here. However, do you realize that more people have been slain the in the name of "God" than for any other reason? Do you unstand that the bible reports a number of things to be historical which are physically impossible?

The bible is a kind of mythology. Take the virgin birth for example. You don't believe that this is a particularly unique story, do you? Greek mythology held similar stories of Zeus taking on various forms to conceive children with mortal women. In one instance he did so in the form of a "curtain of light." Not much different than the Mary story in which she was "overcome" by the spirit. Ancient Egyptian & Babylonian myths also had "virgin birth" stories which predate those in the bible. Zoroastrians believed in baptism & resurrection long before any Judism or Christian texts. Christianity is little more than the recycling of various myths from various cultures.

Atheists simply reject the clearly false stories and seek truth. It's not that they don't want to believe but that they have been given to real reason to believe.
