Approach them, with an open mind, view the challenge as though you want to make a new friend. There's no loss to that, if they aren't interested for the dating scene per say, and I'm not sure if that is your intention or not, but the worst that could happen is you could make a great friend, and have so much in common that you just enjoy that friendship and there's no stress. Perhaps a little disappointing if you want to hook up for something more serious, but the good side is you may have a great friend. Don't sweat it, just go with it! Good luck!

First your shyness is not going to get you anywhere.If you want anything you have to ask for it and especially in this fast world you have to really make your move fast.If you find someone intresting just approach him with a charming smile and say hi.You can carry on general conversation and if the vibes is good can fix up a date in some less crowded restaurant to know more about him.Be free and express yourself during the meeting.Comminicate clearly.No goof ups.Good luck.
