There were alot of civil war generals!!!!!!!!!!!!! You need to be more specific with your question.

I think the war that was fought was called the Civil War,(duh!) and the battle was between the north and south. The general from the north was Ulysses S. Grant, and the other was Robert E. Lee. Pick up a history book, dude. It would be there.

The best known or the best. As a Southerner & Civil War history buff. I think the 2 best Generals for the North were General Carlos Buell & General Phil Sheridan. They did more for North but lacked the big flashy ending battles of Grant & Sherman.

I guess you mean Ulysses S. Grant - who was also president of the United States.
William T. Sherman and Phil Sheridan - famous after the Civil War for their battles with the Indians.
Abner Doubleday - usually mentioned as inventing baseball
