I once took a girl to a Chinese restaurant/take out for a first date. She considered me really cheap and it was downhill from there. Why did I do that? To see if she was superficial. It turns out she was. Do you think this is an apt test of superficiality?

Well I think that most people reveal their true natures by the things they say. they just can't help themselves. I was talking with this guy once and I mentioned how awesome one of my friends was for lending me her truck while my car was in the shop and he said " I have 4 cars, but I'd never lend one out....i'd give them a ride somewhere, but never lend them out" my thought was, gee thanks now I know where you place your value. how is a car more important than a friend?? anyways...shallow people cant help but reveal their true nature. BTW I love chinese food, but i'm already taken *wink :)

Cheap dates are fine with me, they just arent suppose to feel cheap. Make sure the setting is nice, the food is good, ask her for suggestions. I live in DC and for me a nice first date would be at a sushi bar, cool setting, posh atmosphere, inexpensive food, No one wants to dine in a dump.
The girl might've been a little superficial, if the company is good, it kinda makes up for the crappy setting

She was high maintenance. Lose her!

I usually would opt for a buffet meal, Amercian or Chinese,
where people can do a lot of talking> I'd follow that up with a walk somewhere. Usually, it doesn't tqke too long to see whether or not the other would be someone you'd want to get to know better.

Not really. I was always taught that when you are dating a guy, especially a first date you will get the best of him. She probably figured if that was the best of you, that she was out of there. Now, if you had ordered take out and then had it in a nice quiet setting with some candles and whatnot and she complained, then it was her with the problem, not you. Women like to feel special. sitting in a Panda express or wherever you chose is anything but special! lol

The first few dates should always be cheap. You weed out the golddiggers that way.
