OK, let's get this straight. My computer is currently Windows 2000, and I already bought the Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade CD. I tried to use that CD, but it said something like "Windows cannot continue installation. No path found" which is because you can only use the CD for Windows 98. But is there anything I can do to my computer to make this CD work??

First, I wouldn't. Your computer won't gain much in features over Windows 2000, but will slow down and meet more virus and spyware risks. Your computer would need more memory.

But if you DID install Windows XP, I would start by backing up all of your data and lining up your program disks to reinstall it.

Check to see how much RAM that you have. I recommend that you expand it to 512 MB. (The spec says that you can use less, but it is slow as a dog if you don't have 512MB). Visit http://www.coastmemory.com and look up your system to see how much it will take.

Then use the Windows XP disk to delete the Windows 2000 partition, and install from scratch. This would be on a fresh format and you would have nothing corrupt left behind on your disk.

One your computer is back, make sure that you install your anti-virus and anti-spyware solutions. Then get all of the Windows Updates. Finally, install your other software and copy your data into place.

This will take many hours. GOOD LUCK

Its called an Upgrade CD for a reason.
You install it OVER the existing Windows system.

Upgrade CDs DO NOT ALLOW for fresh clean installs.

XP Professional Upgrade works on Windows 2000/Windows NT
XP Home Upgrade works ONLY for Windows 98/98SE/ME

Nope. You'll either have to purchase the XP Pro upgrade, or purchase the XP Pro full install and delete 2000 from your computer.

Clean install only. Will have to go and buy a regular copy of XP Home with SP2. Be sure to backup all your documents pictures and whatever else is vital before you put xp on. Programs can be dnled and added later just the documents and stuff. Cause the stuff on Win2000 will be wiped clean.

Get a windows XP SP2 CD, then install it in your computer. Of course your windows 2000 remains uninstalled and you can use both of them.

XP Home edition is for sale at many stores, It's from $65 to $125. You can't get XP for free anywhere I am aware of. You must buy it, or your computer must allready have it installed.

Simple buy the software at either Circuity City, Office Depo or Staples....insert and it will walk you through it. Good luck and that the only way if you borrow it, after a couple of months it WON'T work. SO go do the legit thing and save yourself Time and aggravation.
