What is the best way to get a cat to take a pill?

I don't recommend crushing a pill on their food. The cat won't get the proper dosage it needs this way. Either put it very far back near their throat and then gently without allowing them to bite their tongue close their mouth and blow gently on their face and rub their throat until you see them swallow. Also chase pill with a few cc's of water. you can also purchase a pill popper/gun if you need to from your vet. you can also ask your vet if the medication comes in liquid form-many drugs do. Hold the cat with one hand just behind the ears with your fingers wrapped around it's jaw. Tuck the cats body under your arm to keep it from struggling.
Pry open the cats jaw and stuff the pill to the very back of the mouth/throat. Hold the cats mouth open with the same hand you're holding the head in, put one finger in the very back of the cat's jaw. This way the cat can't bite down on your finger.

I know it sounds mean, but cats don't take pills willingly...ever.

I give them their favorite wet type food and I crush the pill up into a powder and mix it in with a small bit of food to ensure that they eat it all and not walk away because there is too much food. Also, I make sure that you can't tell a pill was mixed in, cause some cats notice and refuse to eat the food then and you would have wasted a whole pill!

Some medicine is not suppose to be crushed before giving it to your pet. So check with your vet before you do that. We sell pill pushers to people that need to give their cats pills. And we can also use flavoring and mix it so that it is a liquid. The way I give my cat a pill is to scruff it and hold it just off the ground with my left hand and then open its mouth, if you have it scruffed tight enough it will help open the mouth, then I shove the pill as far back as I can and then hold the cat's mouth shut until it swallows. If the pill is really big break it in half & try putting in the middle of some "yummy" canned cat food a piece at a time. If this is not working at all, try crushing it between 2 spoons & mixing it in with canned cat food.

It can be hard to do...what I found works is to hold the cat's head back, open it's mouth, put the pill into it's mouth, hold it closed, and massage it's throat so the pill is forced to go down.
You can also try putting the pill into wet food (many cats really enjoy wet food), or into a treat if the treat is squishy enough.
It can be a challenge, so be patient.

PLEASE Do not give your cat raw hamberger!
Try to brake and smash the pill as small as you can. Then put the pill into some water and then take an eye dropper and place it in the corner of the cats mouth. You are going to have to hold his head. Or if the cat likes milk you could place the pill in some cats milk for it to drink.

you can try opening her mouth jsut behind her top canine teeth. then pull down her lower jaw with your other hand. Have someone else drop the pill into her mouth from above. Then, hold her mouth closed lightly until she swallows. If that doesn't work then try crushing the pill and sticking the powder into some tuna fish juice or some wet food.
