I am going out with a guy I have been out with twice before. In one word he is a cheapskate. He has a good job and the kids are grown. As I said in previous questions, we have had a couple long dates and a total of 12 dollars was spent. I got one item off the dollar menu one time. Tonight we are going to sit at the mall at watch people (I am 40 and don't plan to do that until I am in my 70's). It is very boring to me as I go to that mall several times a week and really don't think it is a date. We might afterwards (maybe 3 or 4 hours later) go to a restaraunt and eat dip and chips. I am preparing myself by eating before I go on this date. It is going to be embarrassing to go into this restaraunt and be seated and get chips and dip (an appetiser) and order nothing else. How should I respond when the waitress comes over to take our order after our chips and dip are gone? It is only expected that you order a meal after that isn't it?

It sounds like this is becoming a serious issue. Why don't you talk to him nicely about it. Being frugal is one thing, but dates that are unreasonably cheap aren't attractive. Maybe he doesn't realize that. You shouldn't eat before a date that you're supposed to eat at. Good grief. Some appetizers are actually quite filling. I have never gone on a date where that's all I ate, but have taken friends to a restaurants and shared appetizers, and had a great time. There is no expectation for anyone to order a full meal at a restaurant, but you shouldn't go hungry from one because the guy you're with is cheap. The worst thing would be to let this go by and become angry at the man for your own disability to address issues. Good luck.

What a boring idea! I can't believe that anyone would consider sitting around at the mall to be a "date." But anyway, in answer to your question the waitress won't care what you order. Some people probably just come in and order coffee and chat. So ordering a light snack would not be unusual either. Maybe you could play a game and guess what each person you see does for a living, or comment on how they dress.

It's a bad sign when you're keeping track of how much a guy spends on you on a date. Maybe you should give up on him and look for free meals elsewhere. The purpose of a date is to get to know one another, not for one person to spend lots of money on the other.

You already told us what you should do. You don't have a good time, move on. Money is not everything though. You can still have fun and not spend money. Like go to a park, long walk or spend a little and throw rotten tomatoes at each other. lol

Don't go on the date. It's obvious that your idea of having fun is much different than his idea of a good time. There may be certain characteristics that you admire about this guy but he is not for you. You should move on and find someone who you are more compatible with.

Why are you even going? Tell him he isn't your type and drop it already. Your not doing him any favors by going out and having a bad time. Let him waste his 12$ on someone else.

OMG..I'm sorry that I find this funny. Please just do yourself a favor and don't go! He's gonna think you're into him, which clearly you're not. It's a Friday night and you've worked hard all week..don't do it!!! Or if you do, PLEASE just order a ton of food and drinks. Drinks will definitely help you go through this date.
